John Maurice Fitte, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, was born September 14, 1904
in New Orleans, Louisiana, d. February 10, 1972 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas
and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery there. In 1933 in Robertson County, Texas he
married Mrs. Berniece Euleta (Garrett) Umberfield, b. December 30, 1909 at
Stranger, Falls County, Texas-a daughter of Leonard Lenore and Lucy Carrol
("Carl" Hargrove) Garrett.
Dr. Fitte adopted her son, Dwayne Lenore, b. February 18, 1930 in Marlin; and he
and Berniece had a daughter, Ruth Cadie Fitte, b. March 15, 1935 in Marlin.
Dr. Fitte had a Veterinary practice in Falls County for nearly fifty years, and
was later in practice with their son, Dr. Dwayne Lenore Fitte, who continues
with the practice in Marlin.
Dr. and Mrs. Fitte were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Marlin, but
the family now attends the First Baptist Church.
Dr. Dwayne Lenore Fitte was married on January 28, 1951 in Chilton, Falls
County, Texas to Rose Marie Goelzer, b. March 1, 1932-a daughter of Robert and
Genevieve Goelzer of Chilton. Dwayne and Rosa had four sons, and adopted two
daughters: John Mark Fitte, b. January 18, 1952 in Marlin who married Linda
Marie Kendrick; Paul Forrest Fitte, b. July 4, 1953 in Marlin who married
Deborah Lenior and resides in Groesbeck, Texas; Malcolm David Fitte, b.
September 21, 1954 in Marlin who married Elizabeth Ann Darden; James Eric Fitte,
b. October 20, 1957 in Marlin, d. October 22, 1957; Martha Rose Fitte, b. August
22, 1963; and Rachel Ann Fitte, b. September 16, 1966. Rose (Goelzer) Fitte is
active in community affairs, and served for a number of years as a Trustee for
Marlin Independent School District.
Ruth Cadie Fitte, b. March 15, 1935 in Marlin, Texas-married Hugh Thomas
Davison, b. April 10, 1935 in Marlin-a son of Hugh Tankersley and Ruth (Thomas)
Davison. They have two children: Jyl Davison, and Jeffrey Thomas Davison, and
reside in Bryan, Texas.
