Leslie Eugene Fischer, b. 1923 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas-a son of Walter Dan and Mabel Agnes (Mims) Fischer, graduated from Marlin High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II, and was reported missing in action. With the help of the French Underground, he was able to evade the Nazi Army until he was liberated by the Americans two months later.

After the war, in 1946, Leslie married Lola Dickert, born in Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas. He went to work for the Fischer Company in the plumbing business with his father and brothers until he became a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

Leslie and Lola Fischer had three children-all born in Marlin, Texas: Steven Lee Fischer, who married Linda Spurlock and resides in Mexia; Jean Marie Fischer, who married Martin Litteken and resides in Wichita Falls, Texas; and John Davis Fischer, who resides in Mexia, Texas.
