     James O. Fannin, b. 1819 in Georgia, d. 1862 in Richmond, Virginia and buried there in Oakwood Cemetery-moved from Georgia to Mississippi in 1836, settling in Copiah County, Mississippi, where he married ca 1839 to Sarah Campbell (called "Sallie"), b. January 23, 1818 in North Carolina, d. December 14, 1900 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas and buried in the Stranger Cemetery.

     James O. Fannin enlisted in Mississippi in 1862 in the Confederate States Army with his eldest son, William Thomas Fannin, and they served in Company C of the 21st Mississippi Regiment. That same year of the Civil War, James O. Fannin died in Richmond, Virginia.

     James O. Fannin was a tanner by trade, and had his business in Copiah County, Mississippi, where all his children were born. He and Sallie were the parents of ten children:

     Minerva Elizabeth Fannin, b. 1840 in Mississippi, (was called "Lizzie"). She married a Mr. Grant, and she died in Mississippi-leaving five minor children: Holly Grand, b. 1866, d. 1947-married a Mr. Carter and had one daughter, Willie Carter. Holly Grant Carter was buried in the Bremond Cemetery, Robertson County, Texas. The second child of "Lizzie" Fannin Grant was Elizabeth Grant, who married Thomas Nathaniel Crenshaw. The third child was Minerva Grant, who married Mr. Van Foote, was buried at White Rock Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas, and had Ola Foote who married a Mr. Bramlett, had two children, and after the death of her first husband married second to Carl Forrest; Monnie Belle Foote, b. 1877, married a Mr. Forson, and was buried in White Rock Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas; Hudnah Foote, b. 1900 - married a Mr. Dunn and resided in Bremond, Texas; Ruby Foote, b. 1906, d. 1971-married to a Mr. Jones and lived, died and was buried in San Angelo, Texas; Reed Foote, b. 1911; and Mary Elizabeth Foote who married a Mr. Ellison. The fourth child of Lizzie Fannin Grant was Frank ("Bud") Grant who never married and was buried in Mustang Prairie Cemetery in Falls County, Texas. The fifth and youngest child of Lizzie Fannin Grant was Sarah ("Sallie") Grant, who married Charles Case. After the death of Minerva Elizabeth (Fannin) Grant in Mississippi, her mother, Sarah (Campbell) Fannin and a brother, William Thomas Fannin, traveled to Mississippi to bring the five orphaned Grant children to Falls County, where they were reared.

     William Thomas Fannin, b. January 18, 1846 in Copiah County, Mississippi, d. March 17, 1910 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas-married December 19, 1867 in Mississippi to Mary Minerva Varnado, b. January 11, 1847 in Copiah County, Mississippi, d. January 11, 1949 and buried in Calvary Cemetery by her husband-a daughter of Howell and Assenith Elizabeth ("Cenith" Davis) Varnado.

     Nancy Fannin, b. ca 1848 in Mississippi-no further information.

     Sarah M. Fannin, b. ca 1850 in Mississippi-no further information.

     Joseph B. Fannin, b. ca 1852 in Mississippi-no further information.

     James Campbell Fannin, b. ca 1854 in Mississippi-no further information.

     John Franklin Fannin, b. ca 1858 in Mississippi-married and had three sons: Thomas, Frank, and Furman Fannin, and settled in East Texas where he had lived since 1875-married December 17, 1885 to Sarah Varnado, b. August 16, 1869 in Copiah County, Mississippi, d. January 14, 1950 at Stranger, Falls County, Texas-a daughter of Charles and Rebecca Jane (Davis) Varnado.

     The Fannins were members of the Baptist denomination, and those who resided in Stranger were affiliated with the Stranger Baptist Church at Stranger. Sarah ("Sallie" Campbell) Fannin moved from Mississippi to Texas with three of her sons in 1875, and they settled in East Falls County at Stranger. They purchased the land of Allen H. Morrell-eldest son of Reverend Z. N. Morrell, who had died in 1857, and they also bought other land in the community-some of which is still owned by members of the Fannin family. There are many Fannin descendants who continue to reside in Falls County, Texas.
