JOHN LEE ELDER

John Lee Elder, b December 30, 1871, d September 4, 1956 - was the second son of Thomas Jefferson and Nancy Jane (Vinson) Elder. He was born in Giles County, Tennessee, and came to Falls County with his family, living in the Stranger Community.

John Lee Elder married a widow, Mrs. Laura Josephine (Rochelle) Jackson, b January 1864 in Tennessee, d 1929 - a daughter of Civil War veteran, Eli Rochelle. Laura had a daughter, Ophie Belle Jackson, b January 6, 1889, d October 15, 1974, who married (name unknown).

John Lee Elder and Laura Belle (Rochelle) had three daughters:

Elma D. Elder, b August 8, 1899 - married Charles Lining.

Theo Elder, b February 8, 1902, d November 14, 1979 - married John William Easter.

Hildred Elder, b 1904 - married John Durward Houston on March 26, 1924 in Marlin, Texas. They were the parents of Barbara June Houston, who married first to Robert Davison and had Lee Ann Davison and Susan Elizabeth Davison; and June married second to Thomas McKinley Criswell.

John and Laura Elder moved to West Texas before 1929, where she died; and he married second to Billie Stephens, b June 1908. They were the parents of John Lee Elder, Jr., b March 6, 1937, who married Bobbye Furn Kelley, b February 23, 1937.
