JOSEPH MADISON EDWARDS

Joseph Madison Edwards, I, b 1904 in Ferris, Ellis County, Texas, died in Marlin, Falls County, Texas and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery-was a son of Robert Edwards, b 1867 in Kentucky, and his wife, Lula (Kelly) Edwards. Robert lived in Tennessee after his family left Kentucky, immigrating to Ellis County, Texas in 1882. Joseph Madison Edwards (called "Joe") was the eldest child, including sisters Madeline and Katy Edwards.

Joe was married to Mae Fogleman. He traveled in the Dallas area while working for the Western Auto Corporation. In 1940, a store was opened in Marlin, and Joe became the owner and manager. The business is now owned by his son, Joseph Madison Edwards, Jr., as "Edwards and Son."

Mr. Edwards was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marlin, and of the Marlin Chamber of Commerce. He and Mae had two sons:

Joseph Madison Edwards, Jr. (called "Joe") married Dorothy Easley, born in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas - a daughter of Samuel Allen Easley, III, a native of Williamson County who died in 1963, and his wife, Aline (Prude) Easley. Dorothy's grandfather, Samuel Allen Easley, I, and his wife, Martha (Sloan) Easley, came to Texas from Pickens County, South Carolina, settling on land they purchased in 1852 in Williamson County. The land was next owned by Samuel Allen Easley, II, and his wife, Roberta (Crow) Easley; and later willed to the three daughters of Samuel Allen and Aline (Prude) Easley, III - including Dorothy Edwards and her sisters, Clair and Martha Easley.

Samuel Edwards, b April 8, 1954 in Marlin, Texas - married Georgia Crownover, of San Angelo, Texas.

Elizabeth Edwards, b September 28, 1955 - married Rudolph Buchwald (called "Trip"), of Dallas.

Dorothy Edwards, b November 15, 1957 - married Mark Collins, of Houston, Texas.

Britt Edwards, b February 28, 1963 - received his Business Administration degree from Baylor University.
