JOHN HARVEY EASLEY

John Harvey Easley, b February 16, 1822 in Dickson County, Tennessee, d April 12, 1868 in Falls County, Texas - was a son of Moses Easley who died on March 27, 1824 in Tennessee, and his wife, Emaline Easley, who married second to Thomas May, and moved to Arkansas.

John Harvey was married July 8, 1840 to Sarah Mary Turner, b ca 1824, d April 24, 1854 in Johnson County, Arkansas. They were the parents of nine children. After Sarah's death, John Harvey married sec

ond, Mrs. Ellen Spears, who had one son, Marion Harvey Spears, b 1848 in Arkansas.

In October 1856, John Ellen, and ten children embarked on a wagon journey to Texas. The main problem was finding enough water, but finally, they arrived at the Little Brazos River in Falls County, where they settled.

Along with farming activities, John Harvey Easley established a freight line from where the railroad stopped at Bryan, and hauled freight as far away as Brownwood. In inclement weather, a trip took six weeks. There were deliveries made to A. S. Trigg's Store, at Alto Springs.

John was a Master Mason in Arkansas, transferring his membership when he moved to Texas. On June 25, 1866, he was ordered to hold an election at Coursey's Store. The military goverment had begun.

John and Sarah's children were:

Emaline Susan Easley, b December 2, 1841 in Arkansas, d October 22, 1869 in Falls County, Texas married May 2, 1861 to Berry B. Lambert, b ca 1830 in Alabama. Their children were Mary Emma Lambert, b May 7, 1862, d 1945 and buried in McClanahan Cemetery - who married Jesse Franklin Hickman, b 1850 in Tennessee, d 1932 and buried at McClanahan Cemetery - a son of Benjamin Hickman. "Jesse" and Mary Emma's daughter, Myrtle Hickman, married Henry Thomas Barton. The Lamberts also had a son, Charles Lambert, b ca 1864.

Eliza Jane Easley, b January 1, 1843 in Arkansas, d June 18, 1861.

Easter Ann Easley, b February 27, 1844 in Arkansas, d January 26, 1933 and buried in Bremond Cemetery, Robertson County, Texas - married first on January 14, 1864 to Nicholas Washington Huffman, b ca 1840, d March 11, 1879, and they had Julia Ann Huffman, b October 26, 1864, d December 1868; Ida Tennessee Huffman, b March 3, 1866 - married Napoleon F. Drake; John Henry Huffman, b January 27, 1868, d June 27, 1871; Clemmentine Isabell Huffman, b August 2, 1870 married John H. Rhodes; Lilly Ellen Huffman, b September 16, 1872, d July 29,1873; Willie Vincent Huffman, b January 2, 1874 - married Benjamin P. Rhodes; Sarah May Huffman, b May 9, 1878 - married Frank P. Ficklin. After the death of Nicholas W. Huffman, Easter Ann (Easley) Huffman was married second on February 5, 1882 to Theophilus D. Lowery, b April 2,1832, d January 14, 1907 and buried in Bremond Cemetery, and they had Mary Leah Lowery, b August 7, 1886, who married Herman H. Kirkpatrick.

Narcissa Isabell Easley, b October 13,1845, d 1913 - married August 21, 1881 to William Everett Smith, who died in 1926. They had twins, Lozo Smith, b June 11, 1882, d December 31, 1900, and Leo Smith, b & d June 11, 1882; John Harvey Easley Smith, b December 25, 1883, d November 19, 1939, who married Ila Grace Petteway, who d March 15, 1968, and had Cleo Smith who married Lewis Guenzel, John Clifton Smith, Jewell Smith b & d 1909, Carlton Smith who married Nell McBride, Leonard Smith who married Catherine Caskey, Ila Belle Smith who married Jack Shaunfield, Dorothy Smith - b 1915, d 1917; Geraldine Smith - b & d 1917; Dorothea Smith who married Raymond Brown, Cecil Smith who married Carolyn Eppright, Norma Josephine Smith who married first to James Maurice Williams, and married second to William Henry Garrett; Harold Smith, Douglas Smith who married Joann Formann, Bonnie Smith - b 1930, d 1932; and Linda Smith who married Harvey Tucker.





 



John Vincent Easley, b September 15, 1847, d February 20, 1903 - married Loraine Clark, d January 24, 1892, and had L. V. Easley, d 1875; John Roy Easley, b 1878, d 1972 - married Lillie Bell Combs, d 1960. John Vincent Easley married second to Rebecca Rowland, who d January 3, 1903, and they had Horace Henry Easley who married first to Una Woodall, and married second to Josephine Atchinson; Mary Agnes Easley, who married John French; and Clinton Rowland Easley, who married Iris Johnson-a daughter of Joe and Eula (Alston) Johnson.

Alfred Thomas Easley, b December 14, 1848, d May 5, 1864.

Mary Arabell Easley, b August 20, 1850, d January 30, 1871- married Green B. Lambert, and had Arthur Lambert, who married Mary Curb.

Harvey Richmond Easley, b April 7, 1852, d May 1, 1871. William Bird Easley, b December 19,1853, d September 26, 1869.

There are many descendants of John Harvey and Sarah (Turner) Easley still in Falls County, Texas, and elsewhere.
