WILLIAM ZIMMERMAN DIXON

 

 

 

     William Zimmerman Dixon, b February 22, 1823 in South Carolina, d May 10, 1878 and buried in Grimes Cemetery, located on the J. D. Headge farm in Austin County, Texas. William was a fanner, and moved from South Carolina to Alabama as a young man.

     On January 8, 1841 in Montgomery, Alabama, William was married to Mrs. Rebecca (Landrum) Alexander, b November 10, 1813, d September 1, 1880 and buried by her husband in Austin County, Texas - a daughter of George and Rebecca (Drake) Landrum, and a sister to Dr. Benjamin L. Landrum and Samuel Landrum, who settled in Falls County and reared families. The Dixons settled in Falls County, Texas between 1852 and 1856; and he enlisted in the Confederate States Army when the Civil War began - serving as a Private in Company A 20th Texas Infantry.

     The six children of William Zimmerman and Rebecca (Landrum) Dixon were:

     Antoinette Dixon, b October 6, 1841 in Alabama, d January 3,1887 - married January 1, 1857 in Falls County, Texas to Edward Daughtery.

     George B. Dixon, b August 1844 in Alabama, d April 28, 1930 - married Julia A. Shelburne.

     John DeKalb Dixon, M. D., b October 3.1, 1846 in Alabama, d January 14, 1878 - married Anne Camp- bell and lived in Falls County, Texas when the 1870 Census was recorded. The children born at that time were: Caroline, b ca 1868, and William b ca 1870. No further information.

     Margaret Tabitha Dixon, b May 7, 1849 in Alabama, d April 18, 1933 - married Anson Jones Harvey.

     Eunice R. Dixon, b ca 1851 in Alabama - married Isaac Lewis, No further information.

     Edward Davidson Dixon, b August 22, 1856 in FaIls County, Texas, d October 29, 1938 - married Mary Lou Minton. No further information.
