JOSEPH EMORY CROOK

 

 

     Joseph Emory Crook, b January 28, 1872 in Hill- side - a community near Lorena, McLennan County, Texas, d October 21, 1949 in Marlin, Falls County, Texas - married first ca 1900 to Mary Lawson, and had two children:

     Robert Cecil Crook, b June 10, 1901, d October 1958.

     Hallie Bee Crook, b May 16, 1904, d July 21, 1979. Mary (Lawson) Crook died about 1906, and Joseph Emory Crook married second on June 6, 1909 to Cora Bell Spurlin, b December 27, 1883 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas d May 31, 1920 in Waco, McLennan County, Texas.

     Joseph Emory worked as a clerk in a Grocery Store and was a bookkeeper for a gin in Lorena, Texas. After the death of his second wife, Joseph Emory moved about 1921 to Mooreville, Falls County, Texas, where he was a farmer for many years subsequently having a grocery store and service station. Joseph Emory and Cora Bell (Spurlin) Crook were the parents of five children:

     Spurlin Crook, b April 9, 1910 in Lorena, Texas. Ethel Louise Crook, b October 9, 1912, d February 7, 1941.

     Margaret Elaine. Crook, b May 29, 1914, d January 10, 1918.

     Joel Emory Crook, b February 2, 1915, d January B, 1919.

     Cora Lyon Crook who married Finis Earl Taylor. She grew up in Mooreville, Texas and was a 1938 graduate of Chilton High School.

     Cora Bell (Spurlin) Crook grew up in the Spring Valley Community of Texas, graduated from Lorena High School in 1904, and from Mary Hardin Baylor College in 1908. She taught school a year before her marriage to Joseph Emory Crook, and then became a wife and mother. She was a member of the Lorena Baptist Church.
