THOMAS TURNER CRISWELL

 

 

     Thomas Turner Criswell, b June 28, 1883 in the Criswell Community of Falls County, Texas, d February 20, 1970 and buried in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas - was a son of John C. Calhoun Criswell, b March 2, 1858, d February 25, 1919, and his wife, Amy Myrtlene (Manning) Criswell, b August 31, 1861, d June 25,1946- both natives of Falls County, and both buried in Criswell Cemetery.

     Thomas Turner Criswell married September 23, 1911 to Mary Amelia McKinley, b September 20,1888 at Odds, Texas, d March 17, 1966 in Marlin and buried in Calvary Cemetery by her husband - a daughter of John Carson and Matilda Caroline (Miller) McKinley.

     Thomas bought land from his brother, William Holmes Criswell, and farmed in the Criswell and Eureka Communities all his life. He and Mary Amelia were members of the Baptist Church, and their children attended the Eureka and Marlin schools. They were the parents of six children:

     John C. Criswell, b August 27, 1912, is a building material analyst. In August 1939, he married Mamie Elizabeth Dixon, b August 27, 1909, of Mart, Texas, and their children are Mary Nell Criswell and Betty Jane Criswell.

     Travis Turner Criswell, b August 12, 1914, is a wholesaler. He married October 6, 1940 in Hamilton, Texas to Winifred McKinley, b May 24, 1919, and their children are Robert Criswell, Marsha Ann Criswell, Janice Criswell, and McKinley Criswell.

     Amelia Myrtlene Criswell, b June 17, 1916, d August 6,1974 in Marlin, Texas and buried there in Calvary Cemetery - married in 1935 to Chester Wright Tate, b June 5, 1914.

     Glen Rice Criswell, b December 24, 1918, is a draftsman and lives in Arizona. He married in July 1946 to Lena Stone of Blevins, Falls County, Texas, and their children are Cathy Criswell, Melinda Criswell, and Belinda Criswell.

     Ray Barton Criswell, b January 31, 1921- married first on January 25, 1945 to Elmyra Morrill, and their children were Ray Barton Criswell, Jr.; Caroline Criswell, and Marlin Criswell. He married second to Jeanne Hunnicutt of Temple, Texas, who had two daughters, Melissa and Catherine, by a former marriage.

     Thomas McKinley Criswell, b February 6, 1928, is an Agronomist - married first to Mrs. Wanda Lea (Harper) Mobley, and married second to Mrs. June (Houston) Davison.

John C. "J. C." married Mamie Elizabeth Dickson.  Their children are:

Mary Nell Criswell and Bettye Jane Criswell.

 

Amelia Myrtlene Criswell married Chester Wright Tate. Their children were: David Wright Tate, Amy Caroline Tate and Tommy A. Tate.

 

Glenn Rice Criswell, b: December 24, 1918, is an engineer and lives in New Mexico. He married on July 26, 1946 to Lena Stone of the Blevins Community. She was the daughter of Charley David Stone and Lella May (Bowers) Stone. The children of Glenn and Lena Criswell are:  Cathy Criswell, Melinda Criswell and Bonnie Criswell.

 

Ray Barton Criswell, b January 31, 1921 married first on January 25, 1945 to Elmyra Merrill, and their children were Ray Barton Criswell, Jr., Carolyn Criswell and Marilyn Criswell.
