Brief History of Falls County

Falls County was formed by the Texas state legislature on January 28, 1850, from Limestone and Milam counties.  The county received its name from the Falls of the Brazos.  The original county seat was Viesca, but due to community outcry, the location was voted on and the new county seat was Adams, which was later renamed Marlin.  The town of Marlin is named after the Marlin family.  Falls County was settled by families from Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
