PETTYTOWN CEMETERY

BASTROP COUNTY, TX

 

Location: From Bastrop, take Hwy 71 west, turn left on Hwy 20, go to Red Rock, take pavement

behind the US Post Office which heads south, follow approximately 4 miles, turn left at the metal

gate.  The  lane leads to the cemetery.  There is a cemetery sign on the pavement.

 

Note:  The Pettytown Reunion is held the 1st Sunday in May.

 

Pettytown was named for John and Elizabeth Dawson Petty who came to this area from McNairy

County, TN.  Elizabeth's parents were Samuel Riley Dawson and Polly Ann Rogers.  (Polly Ann

is the 1/2 sister of Tiana Rogers, who was the 2nd wife of General Sam Houston.)  John Petty was the

son of Joel Petty.  Most of the people buried in this cemetery are their descendants and their families.
