Blair Family Burying Ground (inactive)

Mrs. Robert Blair is interred on the south side of East Erie Street (US 20) in front of the garage at 820. It is approximately across the road from Fobes St. The stone is clearly visible from the road.

Barbara Anderson Blair's marble headstone was unearthed by a bulldozer when the house next door was razed. According to a previous owner, the stone belonged where it is now, where there was a circle of rocks to mark the place. The stone may be on the wrong end of the grave, but most surely is on the grave. The stone was damaged in its unearthing, and was rounded off a bit.

Mr. Blair owned the stove factory down the hill and died in 1893. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in the northeast corner of Section 12. There is a row of Blair stones, including one for Barbara. However, the grave where her memorial is remains empty. There is no record of her burial, and a dowser found most of the other graves filled, but that one unused. The stone there has this information: Barbara Anderson, Oct. 13, 1788 - Apr. 21, 1852.

The obituary in the Painesville Telegraph of Wednesday April 28, 1852 (page 3) read, "Mrs. Blair, wife of R. Blair, Esq., of this town, died in Warren on Tuesday last. Her remains were brought to this place and interred this (Saturday) morning."

This grave is on private property with no public access.
