Mary Elaine Ward, 91, of Huron passed away in Vermilion, OH on Friday, December 7, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born on September 4, 1927 in Sandusky, OH to the late John and Beatrice (Meyer) Smith.

Mary was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Huron. In her spare time, Mary did many interesting things including; boating, camping, roller-skating, roller-dancing, breeding dogs and racing cars at the Sandusky Speedway in the Powder Puff Derby. Her greatest joy of all was taking care of her family.

Mary is survived by son, Kai Ward of Grafton; 2 daughters, Dawn (Greg Smith) Werner of Vermilion and Heather (Nick) Pletcher of Vickery; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Cheryl (Roger) Boughton of Minnesota; brother, Jack (Patricia) Smith of Indiana and life-long best friend, Rosemary Smith of Huron. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Ward; 2 sons, Robert J. Ward and Jon C. Ward and brother, Robert Smith.

Friends & family may visit on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11 am. Pastor Wally Gilbert will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
