Sunday 8 January 2006 2:00 pm The Geauga Co. Genealogical Society will meet this Sunday at Chardon Library. Discussion of goals for 2006 and working on a project for the Library to label photographs will be the focus of the meeting.

Monday 9 January 2006 7:30 PM. Meeting held on the 2nd Monday due to the holiday. The program at the monthly meeting of the Cuyahoga Valley Genealogical Society, at the Independence Civic Center Willow Room , 6363 Selig Drive, Independence, OH will feature Bill Barrow, Special Collections Librarian, Cleveland State University Library, who will discuss The Cleveland Memory Project, and some of its recent additions, such as its growing collection of e-books about Cleveland, its people, and its history; and other new features available on-line and on-site at Cleveland State University.

Tuesday 10 January 2006 12:00 noon at Best Western Lawnfield Inn and Suites Mentor, Ohio - Lawnfiled Inn Lecture Series - Millionaire's Row: Beauty Above, Beneath and All Around. This presentation includes images from some of the stately mansions on Euclid Avenue, once considered the "Most beautiful street in the world." Saturday 21 January 2006, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm The regular meeting of CAGG will feature President Bill Frank discussing the many things he learned at the 2005 Genealogy Conference.

Saturday 21 January 2006 10:00 am Great lake Chapter Association of Professional Genealogists will meet at the Akron Summit County Public Library. The article chosen for the discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, September 2005. It is titled "Social News as a Clue to Ancestry: Hester (nee Rogers) Cunningham of Virginia and West Virginia" beginning on page 165. Thursday 26 January 2006 11:30 am Lake County Genealogical Society Annual Potluck Meeting and First Families of Lake County Induction will be at Morley Library Meeting Rooms. Induction of officers will also take place. The Keynote speaker will be from the Cleveland Restoration Society and the topic is "The Rescue of Our Past." Bring tableware and dish to share.

Monday, 6 February 2006, 7:30 PM. The program at the monthly meeting of the Cuyahoga Valley Genealogical Society, at the Independence Civic Center Willow Room , 6363 Selig Drive, Independence, OH will feature Martin Hauserman, Chief City Archivist, who will speak on "Cleveland's City Archives", an ever-growing record of the life of the City of Cleveland, its residents and its endeavors. The legislative records, correspondence, maps and photographs contained in the Archives offer a blueprint of the city and its changes over time. The records date from 1803, chronicling Cleveland Township, to present time. The City Archives offer rich historical information organized into special collections and legislative files, including A History of Cleveland Baseball from League Park to Jacob's Field, Cleveland Mayors, Cemetery certificates: 1836-1925, City of Cleveland Strip Maps, 1880-1975, among others.

Thursday 9 February 2006 7:30 pm Vickie Blum Vigil will present her book and hints and tips she learned while writing Finding Family History in NE Ohio. at the regular meeting of the Southwest Chapter OGS.

Saturday 11 February 2006 9:00 am Casandra Brown will be the speaker at the regular meeting of NEOCAG. She will discuss basic genealogy and African American research in celebration of Black history month.

Saturday 11 February 2006 9:00 -12:00 noon or 2:00 - 5:00 pm "Picture Your History," a free half-day seminar will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland (8751 Kirtland Rd/Rt 306--the big church at the bottom of the hill). The seminar is aimed at "those who love to preserve their memories," specifically genealogists and scrapbookers. Mini-classes on photography, digital image manipulation and digital restoration of old photos, storage and printing of digital photos, interviewing skills for family history projects, and improving your own journal-writing. Becky Higgins, the former Creative Editor of Creating Keepsakes magazine and author of a new book Our Family Scrapbooks, will kick off the three-hour seminar with a multimedia keynote presentation and will wrap up the event with a hands-on workshop for attendees. Saturday 18 February 2006 9:30 am to 4:00 pm "Explore Your African American Roots." To honor Black History Month, Morley Library, The Friends of Morley Library, and the Lake County Genealogical Society will present a day dedicated to researching the family histories of people of African descent. Members of The African American Genealogical Society of Cleveland will be speaking on a number of topics designed to help you trace your family tree. Dr. Deborah Abbott will be the keynote speaker on the topic, "A Needle in a Haystack - Black Research." The day will begin with a discussion of basic genealogy - charts, forms and sources by Casandra Brown. Personal analysis of your ancestor chart and guidance to sources will be done by members of AAGS as well as LCGS and Morley staff. Database demonstrations will be available. Saturday 18 February 2006 9:30 am - 2:00 pm The regular meeting of CAGG will be in three sessions. The first topic will be "I Learned It Through the Internet" with Jean Hoffman. This will be a potpourri of educational opportunities on the Internet. (The afternoon session was to be "RootsWeb Email Lists" with Dick Rose. However, a change has come about.) Christy Wiggins, genealogy specialist, will describe how to use the newest resource at Fairview Park Library: the microfilm/PC scanning workstation. A brief video and a live demonstration will be included. The middle session will be breakout user groups.

Monday 20 February 2006 6:30 pm "Up Your GEDCom!" Demonstration of putting your genealogy on the Internet so you might be found by others researching the same families. This is at the regular meeting of Greater Cleveland Genealogical Society.

Wednesday 22 February 2006 at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to celebrate George Washington's Birthday at a luncehon in his honor held by the Western Reserve Society Sons of the American Revolution. The date is at the Cleveland Skating Club, Kemper Road, Shaker Heights. Cost includes full course meal, including dessert, tax, tip, and parking. Monday 3 April 2006 7:30 pm East Cuyahoga County Genealogical Society topic will be "The Peopling of Cleveland" (History of Immigration and Migration). John Grabowski, Director of Research, Western Reserve Historical Society and Krieger-Mueller Associate Professor in Applied History, Case Western Reserve University, will be the presenter.

Monday 3 April 2006 7:30 pm The Cuyahoga Valley Genealogy Society will hear a presentation on "Researching Your Slovak, Ancestors: Available Resources" by Joseph Hornack, who will describe what is available at the Slovak Institute Reference Library on Buckeye Rd in Cleveland, as well as resources available on the Internet. Joe has done extensive research on his Slovak ancestors and will share information about resources he found most helpful. The meeting will be held in the Willow Room of the Independence Civic Center, 6363 Selig Drive, Independence, OH.

    Saturday 14 October 2006 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Hudson Genealogical Study Group will present a "German Genealogy Workshop at at the Hudson Library, 96 Library Street, Hudson, Ohio. The featured speaker will be Hans Kopp, a noted local author. Mr. Kopp was born in Batschsentiwan in July 1935, near Apatin on the Danube, the "Land of the Danbue Swabians." Mr. Kopp will speak on German History. Also speaking will be Gwen Mayer, currently the Archivist of Hudson Library and Historical Society. Gwen will speak on sources for German Genealogical Research. Attendees are asked to bring a holiday wrapped keepsake or memorabilia from their ancestors. The packages will be placed on a table, selected by someone who unwraps it. The person who brought that "gift" then will give a short presentation about the item and why it was significant to him or her.
