Sunday 11 July 2004 East Cuyahoga Genealogical Society Guided tour of Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Meet at Rockefeller Greenhouse at 1:50 PM. Tour begins at 2:00 PM and will be a combination of walking and driving. Arrangements made with Cleveland Police Department for convenient parking along East Blvd. and MLK along the way. Mr. Beachy, a retired farmer and carpenter, is now an educator, newspaper columnist, author, and Civil War Historian. Saturday 28 Aug 2004 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Ohio Genealogical Society Chapter Management Seminar will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Celina Ohio in Mercer County (by IN border) Hotel in St. Mary's. Free for members of OGS or OGS Chapters. This is a must (IMHO) for chapter officers, board members and would-be officers, a great opportunity to learn and share with experts and other chapters. Monday 30 Aug 2004 7:30 pm Regular meeting of East Cuyahoga County Genealogical Society. Roger Marble, OGS trustee, will speak on the OGS new Library. (Note this is change of date for Sept. meeting.)

Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at 7:30 pm The Wellington Genealogical Group will host a joint meeting with the Lorain County Chapter of OGS at the Wellington Town Hall on the town square, second floor, Wellington, Ohio. Following a short meeting, the Oberlin Historical and Improvement Organization (O.H.I.O) will reenact the famous Oberlin-Wellington Slave Rescue of 1858, an episode in the tale of "the town that started the Civil War."

Thursday 9 Sept 2004 7:30 pm Southwest Cuyahoga Chapter of OGS will hold their meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Town Hall at 18825 Royalton Road (82). The program is unknown at this time.

    Sunday 12 September 2004 The Annual One World Day at the Cleveland Cultural Garden celebrates the area's rich multiculturalism. A parade of flags begins at 12:30 pm at the Cleveland Rockefeller Greenhouse on East Blvd. Entertainment and a naturalization ceremony accent the day. Genealogical Societies are invited to have a display as well. The activities will be hosted at the German Garden on East Blvd. Flyer is attached in PDF format.

    Monday, September 13, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Cuyahoga Valley Gen. Society meets at Independence Civic Center, Willow Room. Topic is "Summer Research Success Stories." Members will share case studies of successful genealogical research conducted during the summer of 2004.

    Monday, September 13, 2004 The Lorain Co. Chapter of OGS is pleased to welcome Philip C. Franklin, the Director of the Family History Center in Westlake, Ohio. The program topic is "An Introduction to Research at the Family History Center."     Tuesday 14 September 7:00 pm -- "Organizing Your Research" at the regular meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society. It is time to organize all of the research you have done over the summer. Bring ideas to share on organizing your paper documents, family group sheets, and photographs. Samples would helpful.

    Wednesday 15 Sept 2004 7:00 pm The Cuyahoga West Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet in the Porter Room at Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Rd., Westlake. Guest speaker Terry Wade from Fairview DODD Camera and Video will share his knowledge of digital cameras and scanners, as tools for the family historian. The public is invited, at no charge.     Sunday 19 Sept 2004 2:00 pm at Brooklyn Branch Library. Brooklyn Genealogy Club, at its monthly meeting, will hear Wally Huskonen discuss "Planning Your Next Research Trip, Tips for Success." The first tip: Do as much research as you can before you leave town You’ll be better prepared when you are on location. He will discuss what to take with you when you go on the road. Also, if you are planning an extended genealogy research trip in 2005, it’s not too early to start gathering information on research repositories, including libraries, court houses, and cemeteries.

    Monday 4 Oct 2004 7:30 pm Regular meeting of East Cuyahoga County Genealogical Society. Marie Weiss Herlevi from Akron-Summit County Public Library will speak about the "NEW & NEGLECTED RESOURCES IN SPECIAL COLLECTIONS."

    Monday 4 October 2004 7:30 to 9 p.m. Cuyahoga Valley Gen. Society meets at Independence Civic Center, Willow Room. Topic will be " Early Catholic Church Records in the Diocese of Cleveland" to be presented by Christine Krosel, Director of Archival Research. Ms. Krosel will discuss what sacramental records are available from Catholic churches throughout the Cleveland Diocese from the late 1800s and early 1900s and how they can be obtained. She will discuss baptismal, marriage, death, first communion, and confirmation records, and how some records were transferred to other parishes when some parishes were closed.

    Saturday 9 Oct 2004 9:00 am-12:30 pm Regular meeting of NEOCAG presenting "Holiday Digital Wish List." What gadgets, hardware, software, etc. might you want for your own? The latest and greatest, or the best of the tried and true. Members share their favorite program or gadget.

    Saturday 9 Oct 2004 10:00 -11:30 am Great Lakes Chapter of Professional Genealogists will meet at Medina County District Library annex, 210 South Broadway St., Medina, Ohio. The topic for the discussion session, open to any experienced genealogist, appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 92, no.1, March 2004. It is titled "A Detour from the Conventional: The Search for the Parents of Margaret Murray Goheen," beginning on page 51.
    As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343.

    Overview -- This is a hands-on open house. Drop in and test drive genealogy programs such as Family Tree Maker, PAF, and others, as well as the latest genealogy CDs and databases available at the Chardon Library. Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to assist you.
    Bring a floppy disk and your data with you.

    The Western Reserve Historical and the WRHS Genealogical Committee is proud to announce that it has arranged to have Gary Boyd Roberts, senior research scholar of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, give a lively presentation entitled "Ohio’s 10 Presidents." This presentation is free with paid admission and will be of special interest to genealogists.
    Historians have given Ohio the title of "Mother of Presidents" because in most cases 8 Presidents are counted as sons of Ohio; more than any other state. Mr. Roberts will reveal the other two that he considers Buckeye State Boys.

    Monday 6 Dec 2004 7:30 pm Holiday Party at East Cuyahoga Genealogical Society.

    Monday 6 Dec 2004, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Cuyahoga Valley Gen. Society meets at Independence Civic Center, Willow Room. The December meeting will feature a video on "Christmas Unwrapped, The History of Christmas." People all over the world celebrate the birth of Christ on December 25th. But why is the Savior's nativity marked by gift giving, and was He really born on that day? And just where did the Christmas tree come from? The program will answer these and other questions about Christmas. To help celebrate the Christmas season, members will also relate some of their favorite memories of Christmas while they were growing up.

    Tuesday 14 Dec 2004 12 noon "Awakening: Religious Expression in the Western Reserve." Western Reserve Historical Society/Lawnfield Winter Lunch & Lecture Series at Best Western Lawnfield Inn and Suites, 8434 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, Ohio. In the early 19th century two important American religious groups were founded. Much of the early history of the Disciples of Christ and the Latter Day Saints (Mormons) took place in northeast Ohio. The two groups often met and occasionally clashed in the turbulent religious atmosphere of the Second Great Awakening.
