1940 Census

On April 2, 2012, the NARA provided access to the images of the 1940 United States Federal Census for the first time. Unlike previous census years, images of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census were made available as free digital images.

When the 1940 U.S. Federal Census was released, NJGenWeb participated in the 1940 U.S. Census Community Project and assisted in indexing these records to make them searchable online with free and open access.

The 1940 U.S. Census Community Project was completed quickly and is available for free at the Latter Day Saints site. Groups and individuals assisted in transcribing these records, creating an accurate, searchable index.
