KLUCK--Adolph G. Kluck funeral Saturday
    Adolph G. Kluck, 88, Schuyler Rt. 2, died Wednesday at Schuyler Memorial Hospital where he was a patient for two weeks. A retired farmer, he was a lifetime resident of Colfax and Platte counties.
    Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, with Rev. L.E. Mortensen in charge. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
    The body lies in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home until noon Saturday then from 1 to 2 p.m. at church.
    Son of the late Julius and Rosine Ranthun Kluck, he was born Dec. 16, 1881 in Colfax County and attended School at District 23. He married Marie Heibel on Oct. 21, 1903 at St. John Lutheran Church, Shell Creek, of which he was a lifetime member. The family suggests memorials to the church.
    Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Elvin (Irene) DeBower of Schuyler; two sons, Edwin Sr., of Richland and Raymond of Schuyler; seven grandsons; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Smith of Spearfish, S.D., and Mrs. Mary Spankey [sic] of St. Louis.
    His wife died in 1955. Also preceding him in death were an infant son; three sisters, Mrs. Emil Block of Fremont and two as children; two brothers, William of Richland and Herman of Clarks.

JAEGGI--Walter C. Jaeggi Sr., longtime city park employe, dies at 82
    Walter C. Jaeggi Sr., 82, of 1617 Eighth Street, died Wednesday in Behlen Memorial Hospital. He was a lifetime Columbus resident and longtime city park employe.
    Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Columbus Cemetery. The Rev. H.M. Rathkamp will officiate.
    The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    A member of a pioneer Nebraska family, Mr. Jaeggi was the son of Adolph and Constance Jaeggi, who came from Switzerland. His father homesteaded in this area.
    Walter was born at Columbus Jan. 23, 1887 and after receiving his early education here, he attended Nebraska Agricultural College in Lincoln.
    Married to Ida Oppliger at her rural home, he farmed east of Columbus for several years. After moving to Columbus he was a bulk carrier for Standard Oil,, then was employed by Anderson Greenhouse and later by the city park board at Pawnee Park for 17 years. He retired 10 years ago.
    Mr. Jaeggi was a former president of the Sons of Hermann Lodge; a member of Swiss Maennerchor and a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Edna) Hage of Huntington, N.Y., Mrs. Lloyd (Elfrieda) Jenkinson of Monroe, Mrs. Rollo (Helen) Wiebold of Columbus, Mrs. Donald (Doris) Godard of Fountain Valley, Calif.; two sons, Walter Jr., and Robert of Columbus; and 14 grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Ernest Jaeggi, and a brother in infancy.
    The family requests that memorials be directed to Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund.

DRINNIN--Rites here for Catherine Browner Drinnin
    Catherine Browner Drinnin, last of the second generation of the 13 original founders of Columbus, died of pneumonia early Tuesday at a Norfolk hospital at the age of 100.
    She had anticipated the observance of her 100th birthday for some time and when the day arrived only last Sunday, Jan. 4, was able to sit in her rocking chair and enjoy the centennial in the company of the family of her son Samuel P. Drinnin Sr., with grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered about her for the momentous occasion.
    Funeral Mass wil be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bonaventure Church for Mrs. Drinnin, a lifetime Catholic. Her pastor, Rev. Fr. Benedict J. La Rocque of Norfolk will conduct the service. Burial will be in Columbus Cemetery.
    Mrs. Drinnin's father, John Browner, was one of the organizers of this cemetery and a charter member of the Columbus Cemetery Association.
    The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home after 1 p.m. today until the hour of the funeral.
    Mrs. Drinnin, the daughter of John Browner, pioneer, and Margaret O'Connor Curry Browner, was born in Columbus at the Browner home, 1803 Sixth Street. In 1874, her father built a spacious home on the Browner farm two miles northeast of town and moved his family there.
    Mrs. Drinnin had two half-brothers, Samuel B. Jr., and John M. Curry; two brothers, William F. and James C. Browner; and a sister, Helen, Mrs. Albert Gehner of St. Louis, who in 1941 gave the Platte County Agricultural Park, the former James C. Browner farm, to the people of Platte County.
    Catherine Browner received her early formal education in the Columbus schools and then attended St. Francis Academy and Columbus High School. She was graduated from Fremont Normal College at Fremont, Neb., and taught in the Platte County, Colfax County and Columbus schools.
    Her marriage to Samuel P. Drinnin took place in St. Bonaventure Church on Dec. __, 1895. They made their home on a farm near the B___ School, then northeast of ___________.

JAEGGI--Jaeggi Rites - Funeral services for Walter C. Jaeggi Sr., were Saturday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church and Columbus Cemetery with the Rev. H. M. Rathkamp officiating. Pallbearers were Jacob Glub, Carl Hoge, William Gersip, Ernest Luchsinger, Martin Stenger, Fred Matthew with Rudy Stoll serving as honorary pallbearer. Gass-Haney Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

BRUNKEN--Funeral rites set Friday afternoon for Carl H. Brunken
    Funeral services for Carl H. (Charlie) Brunken, 85, of 1851 22nd Avenue, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery.
    Pastor A.H. Guettler will officiate, and he will also conduct a family prayer service at 11 a.m. Friday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home.
    The body wil lie in state at the funeral chapel from 1 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday, then from 1 to 2 p.m. at church. Casket will not be opened after the church service.
    Mr. Brunken, a retired farmer, died Tuesday morning in Behlen Memorial Hospital after an illness of three months.
    He was born Oct. 9, 1884 at Columbus to John and Johanna Plath Brunken, and attended District 35 School. On April 14, 1915 he married Etta W. Weyen at Monroe. They observe[d] their golden anniversary five years ago.
    The Brunkens farmed in Shell Creek Township, then west of Columbus until retiring to town.
    Baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are his widow; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Roesch and Mrs. Herman (Louise) Karlin, both of Columbus; two brothers, Emil H. of Columbus and Edward W. of Knoxville, Iowa.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister, William of Enid, Okla.; Henry of Venice, Calif.; Louis, Gus, Otto and Mrs. John (Mary) Witt of Columbus.

JENSEN--Final rites Monday for Henry S. Jensen
    Henry S. Jensen, 64, of 3218 17th Street, died today at Behlen Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness.
    Services will be conducted by Rev. Hugo Rathkamp at 2 p.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at St. Edward.
    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Chapel from 1 p.m. Sunday and at the church after 1 p.m. Monday.
    Son of the late Jens and Christina (Petersen) Jensen, he was born Dec. 8, 1905 in Omaha. He attended public schools in St. Edward where he resided until moving to Columbus in October, 1952. He was employed by Columbus Hydraulics.
    During World War II he served in the Army from Dec. 4, 1942 until March 22, 1944. He was assigned to Company K, 3rd Provisionsal Training Regiment, E.U.T.C.
    On April 21, 1940 he married Leona Tiemann at the Albion Lutheran Church and she survives. Other immediate survivors are his sisters, Mrs. Frank (Amelia) Barber and Mrs. Ann Carroll of St. Edward.
    In Columbus he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund.

BREESE--Lester Breese rites held this afternoon
    Funeral services for Lester W. Breese, 69, of 1154 41st Avenue, were held at 2 p.m. today at Gass-Haney Funeral Home.
    The Rev. William Gabb officiated, and burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Hilbert Hefti, Gordon Hoessel, Robert Iverson, Robert Patrick; A. Glenn Kluck and Wilfred Hoessel.
    Mr. Breese died Saturday in a Columbus hospital.
    Born Jan. 25, 1901 in Columbus to Orrin and and [sic] Katherine Way Breese, he attended Platte County Schools. He married Ann Hoessel Jan. 12, 1927, at Columbus.
    The couple moved to Fremont where he owned and operated a restaurant for over 20 years. He also worked as a dairy inspector for the State Department of Agriculture for 10 years retiring in 1963. The couple moved back to Columbus in 1959.
    Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The family suggests memorials to St. Paul's Memorial Fund.
    Survivors include his widow; son, Robert of Grand Island; daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Eldean) Kechely of Lincoln; grandchildren, Karen and Warren Breese of Grand Island; Tim and Todd Kechely of Lincoln.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Archie of Chicago.

JACOBS--Mrs. Marie Jacobs, 89, dies Saturday; services Tuesday
    Mrs. Marie Jacobs, 89, of 1709 17th Street, died Saturday at St. Mary Hospital. She had been ill the past month.
    Fr. Regis Watts will officiate at funeral services 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The body lies in state at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. today.
    Members of Christian Mothers are to attend funeral services in a body.
    Born Dec. 14, 1880, in The Netherlands, she was married there to Peter Jacobs Feb. 23, 1922.
    They came to the United States in 1922, residing in David City and Columbus.
    Mrs. Jacobs was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, and was affiliated with St. Anne's Society and Franciscan Missionary Union.
    Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Helen Shadle; six grandchildren; and one sister, Tonia Van den Boogaard of The Netherlands.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1961, an infant son and daughter; and sisters, Dina and Gertrude.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Barrett, 87, will be held Friday at 1:15 p.m. at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Croker in charge, and at 2 o'clock at Creston Presbyterian Church.
    The Rev. George Vavra will officiate at the church, and burial will be in Creston Fairview Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
    Mrs. Barrett, of 1472 28th Avenue, died Tuesday at Behlen Memorial Hospital.
    She was born March 9, 1882, at Creston, the daughter of F.F. and Merva Lawrence Clark, and attended Platte County schools. She was a lifetime resident of this county.
    On March 4, 1902, she was married to Albert F. Barrett in Columbus. She was a resident of Creston until moving to Columbus in 1953.
    Mrs. Barrett was a lifetime member of the Creston Presbyterian Church, and a charter member of the Guild there. The family suggests that memorials be direced to Creston Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
    She is survived by daughters, Verda of Columbus, Mrs. Ralph (Elva) Keill of New Carrollton, Md., two grandsons, Dr. Ralph H. Keill of Columbia, Mo., and Capt. Gary Keill of Fort Ord, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Lincoln James Keill and Mary Kathryn Keill of Columbua, Mo.
    Preceding her in death were one sister, Mrs. L.E. Whiting, and four brothers, Clyde, Ralph, Frank and Leon Clark.

KNEIFEL--Rites Friday for Arthur Kneifel
    Last rites for Arthur Kneifel, 59, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home.
    The Rev. D. Lee Grace will officiate, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. The body is to lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday. A former Columbus resident, Mr. Kneifel died March 2 in Portland, Ore., after a short illness.
    He was born here March 11, 1910, the son of Josef and Rosa Borke Kneifel, and was educated in local schools. Mr. Kneifel had been a resident of Portland since 1945, and was employed by Sears, Roebuck and company there.
    Surviving are two brothers, Carl and William Kneifel of Columbus, and two sisters Mrs. Rose West of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. August (Olga) Rickner of Columbus.
    Mr. Kneifel was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe of Yakima, Wash., and Frank of Columbus.

KMOCH--Laddie Kmoch, 47, dies this morning; funeral rites Friday
    Laddie A. Kmoch, 1602 20th Street, died this morning in Behlen Memorial after a brief illness. He was 47.
    Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Pastor B.F. Meschke will officiate. The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
    Mrs. Kmoch, who had resided here the last six years, was employed by Becton, Dickinson and Company.
    Born April 23, 1922 on a Leigh farm, he attended rural school in Stanton county. He married Adeline Platt on Nov. 28 1944 at Madison. After farming near Leigh for several years, they moved to California for three years, then came to Columbus … (remainder not copied)

BRAKENHOFF--Mrs. A. Brakenhoff dies today; funeral services Monday
    Mrs. Arthur (Alice) Brakenhoff, 63, of 2813 Cheyenne, died early this morning at Behlen Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness.
    Funeral rites will be conducted by Rev. B.F. Meschke, 1:30 p.m. Monday at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel and 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
    Body will lie in state at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Sunday. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, 14 miles north of Columbus.
    Daughter of the late George and Minnie Weilage Neemeyer, she was born Oct. 23, 1906 at Kramer, Neb., Lancaster County, where she was baptized and confirmed and attended parochial school.
    She was married to Arthur Brakenhoff on Oct. 8, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Columbus. They resided north of Columbus until retiring to town in 1963, and she was employed by Dale Electronics from 1961-69.
    Currently a member of Immanuel Church, she was a former member of the St. John Church and Ladies Aid.
    Surviving are her husband; two sons, Marvin and Duane; three grandchildren; a brother, Harold Neemeyer; two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Elsie) Brakenhoff and Mrs. Herman (Dorothy) Hespe, all of Columbus.
    Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Church or American Cancer Society.

BABKA--Fred W. Babka rites Saturday
    Funeral services for Fred W. Babka, 69, 2512 25th Street, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Federated Church with Rev. Russell Croker in charge. Burial will be at Belvidere, Neb.
    The body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral chapel from noon Friday until noon Saturday, then at church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
    Mr. Babka, who retired from the Federal Land Bank of Omaha in 1965 after 42 years of service, died unexpectedly Tuesday while working in the yard at his home. He was a part time employe in the Platte County Assessor's office.
    Son of the late Frank William and Catherine Kalina Babka, he was born June 22, 1900 at Thornburg, Neb.
    After graduating from Belvidere High School he was a bank examiner for a short time, then worked for International Harvester until joining the Federal Land Bank. He lived at York and Garden City, Kan., moving to Columbus in 1938.
    He was a member of the Federated Church and Anchors Club, Elks Club, Masonic Lodge 323 AF & AM, Tangier Shrine Temple of Omaha and the Pawnee Shrine Club. Fishing, gardening and hunting were his hobbies.
    His first wife was Ethel A. Van Waning, whom he married June 16, 1923 in Lincoln. She died May 18, 1956.
    On July 16, 1961 he married Wilma B. Dickey of Columbus, who survives.
    Also surviving are two sons, Leonard W. of Columbus and Edward A. of Dubuque, Iowa; sister, Mrs. Amy Labcheska of Bruning; brother, Frank of Alexandria, Neb.; four stepchildren, Charley L. Dickey and Marian E. Hanner of Columbus, Warren R. Dickey of York, Sandra A. Kniffen of Lincoln; four grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren. A brother died in infancy.

BABKA--Babka Services - Funeral services for Fred W. Babka, 69, who died March 24, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Federated Church. The Rev. Russell Croker officiated and burial was in Columbus Cemetery, with Masonic rites. Also attending in a body were the Pawnee Shrine Club and representatives of the Federal Land Bank. Pallbearers were Ray Hauser, Alvin Grubaugh, Norris Augustin, Leslie Hubbard, Bob Rodehorst and Ira Gates.

BERNT--Oswald Bernt Jr. dies this morning; rites Wednesday
    Oswald Emil Bernt Jr., 52, Columbus, died this morning at Veterans Hospital in Omaha. He had been in poor health the past two years.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Church, with Fr. Regis Watts officiating, and burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, where there will be a visual service at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
    He was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Polk County, the son of Oswald and Aurelia Alt Bernt Sr., and attended Polk County schools.
    Mr. Bernt was married to Barara [sic] Micek April 12, 1948, at St. Anthony Church. He was associated in the General Construction Company.
    A veteran of World War II, he served from Oct. 24, 1941, to Oct. 24, 1945. He was a member of Post No. 3704, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
    Mr. Bernt, a Catholic, was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
    He is survived by his wife; sons, Eward [sic] of Ft. Lewis, Wash., Timothy and Joseph at home; daughters, Janet and Susan, at home; his father, of Osceola; brothers, Leo and Sylvester Bernt of Columbus; and a sister, Mrs. Monte (Veronica) Davis of Omaha.
    Mr. Bernt was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, in childhood; two daughters, Mary Alice, in infancy; and his mother.

BERNT--Bernt Rites - Funeral services for Oswald E. Bernt Jr., 52, were held Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Church. The Rev. Cal Giesen and Rev. Emmett Meyer concelebrated the Mass, and burial was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were: Francis and Mark Alt, Raymond and Eugene A. Bernt, Floyd H. Arasmith Sr. and Arthur Gabriel. Military graveside services were conducted by the Honor Guard of Hartman Post 84, American Legion, with Keith Bryan as sergeant. Members of the color guard were L.M. Johnson and Paul Pfeifer. Serving as the escort were: William D. Putnam, Gene Neater Paul Gutzmer, Duane Ernst, Walter Kopetzky and Jim Gregorius. Paul Abegglen and Paul Braun presented the flag. Steve Herfkens was the bugler. School children from Scotus attended in a group. Mr. Bernt is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Mimick, and five children, Edward of Fort Lewis, Wash., Timothy, Joseph, Janet and Susan, all at home. A son, Thomas, died in childhood, and two daughters, Mary Louise and Mary Alice, died in infancy.

KOTROUS--Former resident dies in Vietnam
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Hengstler Chapel in Creighton, Neb., for PFC Eudell (Butch) Kotrous, who was killed April 26 near the DMZ between North and South Vietnam.
    He had been in Vietnam since about March 15, serving with the 101st Airborne, U.S. Army. Before entering service, he was employed by Douglas-Lomason in Columbus.
    Pvt. Kotrous is survived by his wife, nee Marilyn Ellingson, whom he married May 31, 1969. She is living with her parents in Ord.
    Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kotrous of Verdigre; four sisters, Mrs. Gail (Marce) Hazen and Mrs. Jon (Joyce) Shaffer, both of Bloomfield, Mrs. Alfred (Bernice) Cernousek of Kearney, Elaine of Verdigre; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kotrous of Verdigre and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Martin of Crosby, Texas.

    Funeral services for V. Ray Brazeal, 75, of 956 1/2 30th Avenue, are set for 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Erwin C. Basler in charge. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
    Mr. Brazeal died unexpectedly Thursday night in Denver, enroute home from Phoenix, Ariz. He was retired.
    The body will lie in state at McKown Funeral Home from 1 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m.
    Son of the late Milton and Laura (Burke) Brazeal, he was born July 17, 1894 at Hartville, Mo. He married Anna Bruton at Norwood, Mo., in March, 1916 and they lived in Shenandoah, Ia., until moving to Columbus 10 years ago.
    He was a member of First Baptist Church.
    Surviving are his wife; three sons, Oren of Santa Fe, N.M., G.H. of Columbus and Willard of Littleton, Colo; two daughters, Mrs. Franklin (Fern) Roberts and Mrs. William (Edith) Farrell, both of Phoenix; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister. Five brothers preceded him in death.

KULA--Thursday rites set for Elizabeth Kula
    Mrs. Elizabeth Kula, 66, of 3103 Eighth Street died Monday evening in St. Mary Hospital. She had been ill the last two months.
    Funeral rites are set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Armand Lubanski.
    Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McKown Funeral Chapel where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    Daughter of the late Frank and Mary Schmid, she was born Nov. 19, 1903 in Poland. She married Charles Kula on Oct. 25, 1932 and the following year they came to Columbus. She was a member of St. Anthony church.
    Surviving are one son, Ted of Columbus. Her husband, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

JACOBS--Henry Jacobs rite will be Wednesday
    Henry M. Jacobs, 82, longtime resident of Bellwood and Columbus, died Sunday at Behlen Memorial Hospital after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McKown Funeral Home with Lowell Jones officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Cemetery, and the body will lie in state in the funeral home after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
    Mr. Jacobs was born March 22, 1888, in Knox County, son of Henry C. and Julia Rice Jacobs. They moved to Columbus in 1919.
    He was married in 1908 to Rosa Bock in Sioux City, Iowa. She died in 1928 survived by five children: Mrs. Harry (Harriett) Nauenburg, Ronald and Franklin of Columbus, Mrs. Orville (Julia) Enyeart of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Edward (Leola) Jakub of Schuyler.
    He was married to Pearl Hasner Jacobs of Omaha and they had these children: Henry Jr. and Wayne of Columbus, Marion of Colby, Kans., Harold and Bernard of Capistrano Beach, Calif., Jerry, Mrs. Kenneth (June) Hilmner and Mrs. Ivan (Rose) Heesacker of Omaha, Keith of Laurel, David of Iowa, Mrs. Garry (Linda) Becker of North Platte, and Marie Jacobs of Omaha.
    Also surviving are his wife; 29 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Fritz (Della) Gensicken of Sioux City, Mrs. Roy (Evie) Brink of Neligh and Mrs. Irean Doan of Walnut, Calif.

BRUNING--Last rites for Mrs. Bruning here Friday
    Funeral services for Mrs. Keith (Lessa Mae) Bruning, 54, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Methodist Church.
    Officiating will be Dr. Lowell Jones and Dr. Edwin Murphy, and burial will be in Columbus Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at McKown Funeral Home, then at the church Friday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
    Mrs. Bruning, of 2908 15th Street, was killed in a traffic accident Monday night in Dodge County.
    She was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Middletown, Mo. She attended Montgomery rural schools, Montgomery City High School and Kirksville State Teachers College, all of Missouri.
    On June 6 1943, she was married to the Rev. Keith E. Bruning at Buell, Mo. They resided in Colorado, and in Harrison, Wisner, Greeley, and Columbus, Neb., where her husband is associate pastor of First United Methodist Church.
    Mrs. Bruning was active in Methodist WSCS and United Church Women, served as a Sunday School teacher, and held offices in district and local church organizations.
    She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Warren (Maelyn) Toelle of Battle Creek, Keitha of Omaha and Myra at home; two sons, Leslie of Omaha, and Peter, at home; her mother, Mrs. Leslie Parkey of Montgomery City, Mo.; sisters, Mrs. Maurice (Thelma) Powell of Montgomery City, Mo., and Mrs. Melton (Naomi) Martin of Granite City, Ill.; and one grandchild.
    Her father, Leslie Parkey, preceded her in death.
    The family suggests that memorials be directed to First United Methodist Church.

BLASER--Mrs. Quentin Blaser dies; funeral rites will be Saturday
    Mrs. Quentin (Margaret) Blaser, 62, of Rt. 4, Columbus, died this morning in Behlen Memorial Hospital.
    Funeral rites are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke United Church of Christ with burial in the Gruetli Cemetery. Her body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday and at church from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
    A lifetime resident of Platte County, she was born Aug. 24, 1907 to Ernest and Annie (Noonan) Van Allen. She was graduated from Monroe High School.
    On April 30, 1931 she married Quentin Blaser at her parents' home, and they have since lived on Route 4.
    Mrs. Blaser was a member of the Gruetli United Church of Christ and served as secretary of the Ladies Aid. Memorials may be directed to that church.
    Surviving are her husband; daughter, Sherry of Lincoln; son, Lynn, at home; two brothers, Ercill and Robert Van Allen of Columbus. Brothers preceding her in death were George and infant Louis.

KARLIN--Reinhold L. Karlin rites in Ogallala; here tomorrow
    Reinhold L. Karlin, 81, died at his home in Ogallala Friday.
    Services were held there this morning and the body is being transported to Columbus where it will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with burial in Roselawn Cemetery with the Reb. [sic] B.F. Meschke officiating.
    Mr. Karlin was born Dec. 14, 1889, in Platte Center to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Karlin. He moved to Columbus with his parents in 1898 and lived here until 1939 when he moved to Ogallala.
    A retired Union Pacific Railroad employee, he also was a retired volunteer fireman. In 1968 he received an award from Ak-Sar-Ben for outstanding firemanship.
    He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala.
    On Feb. 11, 1914, he married Claubora Denman in Belgrade. She survives him.
    Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Leah) Benek; son, William of Michigan; sisters, Mrs. B.F. (Hilda) Garner, Alvina Karlin; brothers, Herman of Columbus and Emil of Fremont.
    Preceding him in death was a sister Marie.

KNEIFEL--Carl Kneifel, 66, dies here; rites Saturday
    A Columbus businessman, Carl M. Kneifel, 66, died unexpectedly Wednesday at his home, 2511 1/2 11th Street. He was owner of the Kneifel Bicycle Shop.
    Funeral services are set for 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The Rev. Regis Watts will officiate.
    Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Chapel where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    A lifetime Columbus resident, he was born here Feb. 21, 1904 and attended St. Francis Academy. His parents were the late Josef and Rosa (Borke) Kneifel.
    He was employed in the Henry Ragatz Grocery for 20 years before opening his bicycle repair shop.
    Mr. Kneifel was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and Eagles Lodge.
    He married Edith Bader at Genoa on Dec. 14, 1921 and she survives. Also surviving are four children, Mrs. Clayton (Leona M.) Brewer, Carl R. Jr., George F. and Eugene F., all of Columbus; one brother, William of Columbus; two sisters, Rose West of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. August (Olga) Rickner of Columbus; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Three brothers, Joe, Frank and Arthur, are deceased. Also preceding him in death were two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Funeral services for Sam Bussey, 73, are pending. He died at his home, 1460 1/2 35th Ave., this morning.

    Mr. Bussey was born Sept. 13, 1897, in Norfolk to Peter and Elizabeth Bussey.
    He married Hazel E. Kimball July 1, 1931, at Elk Point, S.D.
    The couple resided at Norfolk where he was a line foreman for construction crews building power lines. In addition he farmed in the Norfolk area and worked at the Norfolk Public Library. He retired last year.
    Survivors include his widow; daughters, Mrs. E.C. (Loreen) Bitcon of Omaha, Mrs. A.R. (Neoma) Goodman of Columbus; sons, Eugene of Sioux City, Iowa, Leslie of Ainsworth; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Bussey of Norfolk; sister, Carry Neckman of Pierce.

    Ernest Bokelman, 71, Platte Center, died unexpectedly Thursday evening at home.

    Son of the late Herman and Louise Westmeyer Bokelman, he was born Dec. 4, 1898 at Genoa and attended Nance County schools. He married Sylvia Grossnicklaus Sept. 5, 1933 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Columbus.
    Surviving are his wife; son, Arden of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Sylvia Ellen) Schlichting of Sherwood, Ore., and Mrs. Gerald (Lois) Hellbusch of Humphrey; seven grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, W.H. of Platte Center, Louis, Theodore, Hedwig and Helen of Columbus.

BURTON--Columbus man found dead
    PENDER (UPI) - An autopsy report was expected to be returned today providing further information into the death of Joseph W. Burton, 38, of Columbus, Neb.
    His body was found Wednesday morning in his auto which was parked near a Macy residence.
    Sheriff Clyde Storie said it appeared Burton had been beaten.
    Officers were questioning several suspects in connection with the death.
    Funeral services for Mr. Burton, who had worked at several Columbus restaurants, are pending at McKown Funeral Home.

    Frank L. Bukacek, 52, of 2822 20th Street, died Thursday at St. Mary Hospital after an illness of two months.
    Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Church, and burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday at McKown Funeral Home, where rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
    He was born March 17, 1918, in Dodge, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bukacek, and was married to Sylvia Blaha April 23, 1946, at St. Mary Church at Tabor. They resided in Colfax County until coming to Columbus five years ago.
    Mr. Bukacek was employed by Gerhold Concrete products.
    A veteran of Army service in World War II, he was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
    Surviving are his wife; six daughters, Lori, Theresa, Cynthia, Kathy and Mrs. Russell (Pat) Rezac, all of Columbus, and Mrs. Robert (Jeanne) Schmid of Fremont; two sons, Richard and David of Columbus.
    Other survivors are his mother, Mrs. John Moore of Enid, Okla.; sisters, Mrs. Emil (Wilma) Oborny and Mr. Ray (Marie) Podliska of Schuyler, and Mrs. Vince (Ruth) Fendrick of Columbus; brothers, Adolph Bukacek of Denver and Leonard of Enid, Okla.; half-sisters, Mrs. Robert (Anna) Kuykendall and Mrs. William (Lillian) Taylor of Enid, Okla.; and a half-brother, John Rezac of Oklahoma City, Okla.
    He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather.

BITTNER--Saturday rites set for Charles Bittner, retired UP engineer
    Funeral services for Charles G. Bittner, 73, of 3315 16th Street, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lowell Jones officiating.
    The retired Union Pacific engineer died unexpectedly Wednesday morning in St. Mary Hospital.
    His body will lie in state at Gass-Haney Funeral Chapel from 1 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday, then at church from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Masonic rites.
    Mr. Bittner had 44 years of service with the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in March, 1967. He lived in Omaha before moving here in 1936.
    Son of the late Edd and Margaurita Koelecoven Bittner, he was born March 12, 1897 in Adair County, Iowa, where he received his education.
    He married Coramay Clark on Nov. 4, 1936 in Omaha.
    Mr. Bittner's Masonic affiliations included Lebanon Lodge No. 323, AF & AM; York Rite Orient Chapter 18, Gebal Council No. 12; Gethsemane Commandery No. 21; Tangier Shrine temple.
    He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Engineers and Union Pacific Oldtimers Club No. 3.
    Survivors include his wife; sister, Mrs. Ida Smith of Fontenelle, Iowa; nieces, Norma Bolton of Iowa City and LaVern Glenndening of Mount Ayr, Iowa.

JENSEN--Death - Mrs. Ruth E. Jensen, 85, died this morning at Behlen Memorial Hospital. She made her home with her son, Robert, and family at 2411 25th Street. Also surviving are another son, William of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters. Her husband, Carl H., preceded her in death. The body is being transferred from Gass-Haney Funeral Home to Superior where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mergrue-Price Funeral Home, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

KAMMERER--Dies in Hospital - Orville Kammerer, 76, Rt. 4, Columbus died Wednesday in St. Mary Hospital. He was the father of Mrs. Charles Favors. McKown Funeral Home transferred his body to Caldwell Funeral Home in Plattsmouth for Saturday services at the Christian Church. Burial will be in Bedford, Iowa.

BAKENHUS--Martha Bakenhus dies on Tuesday, last rites Friday
    Mrs. Oscar (Martha) Bakenhus, 77, of Rt. 1, Leigh, died Tuesday evening at Columbus Manor.
    There will be a prayer service at 1:15 p.m. Friday at Gass-Haney Funeral Home, and the funeral will be at 2 o'clock at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. M. Bornemann will officiate, with burial in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. The body is to lie in state at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.
    She was born June 7, 1893, in Colfax County, the daughter of Fritz and Ida Grotelueschen Otte, and attended Colfax County and Christ Lutheran Schools.
    On June 17, 1915, she was married to Oscar Blaser [sic] at Christ Lutheran Church.
    A resident of Colfax and Platte Counties, Mrs. Bakenhus was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church.
    Surviving are six children, Walter, Orvis and Orden of Leigh, Ora and Esther of Marion, Iowa, and Mrs. Loren (Arloa) Fittje of Humphrey; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest Otte of Columbus and Herman of Leonia, N.J.; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Minnie) Otte of Wayne and Mrs. Ann Littlejohn of Corvallis, Ore.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Lorna and Elna of Leigh; one sister, Mrs. Ernst (Louise) Korte of Columbus; and one brother, Adolph Otte of Columbus.

BURLEY--Graveside rites for Mrs. Burley
    Graveside funeral services are slated for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha for Mrs. Elsie M. Burley, 73, widow of a Columbus implement dealer, who died Saturday in Birmingham, Mich.
    John A. Gentleman Mortuary, 3411 Farnam Street in Omaha, is in charge of arrangements.
    Born in Meadow Grove, she was the widow of the late F. Lowell Burley who was once an implement dealer here.
    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gould B. Flagg of Birmingham and three grandchildren.

KUHLEN--Charles J. Kuhlen funeral Thursday
    Charles J. Kuhlen, 75, Platte Center farmer, died Monday in St. Mary Hospital after a lingering illness.
    Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic church, Platte Center, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Msgr. Floyd F. Fischer will officiate.
    Scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home, where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. that day.
    Son of the late Bernard and Elizabeth Tapken Kuhlen, he was born Nov. 3, 1894 at Platte Center, where he was a lifetime resident. He attended St. Anthony School.
    Surviving are one brother, Henry of Platte Center; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Katherine) Ryan of Newport Beach, Calif., Mrs. Mary Schumacher, Mrs. Bertha Schumacher and Mrs. Lucy Langan, all of Columbus. One sister, Clara, died in infancy.

KEYES--Harlan J. Keyes dies here today; rites are pending
    Harlan J. Keyes, 64, of 2470 14th Avenue East, died this morning in Behlen Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health the past six months.
    Funeral services will be at Bible Baptist Church with burial in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Complete arrangements are pending at McKown Funeral Home.
    A resident of this community the last 20 years, he owned rural milk routes until February, 1967, then was a salesman until the time of his illness.
    Born April 29, 1919 near Thayers, he attended schools there. He married Nelta Hayward on April 30, 1942, and served in the Army from June 1945 to April 1946.
    An active member of the Bible Baptist Church since 1955, he served as a trustee.
    Survivors include his wife; sons, Rockford J. and Douglas; daughters, Mrs. Craig (Charlotte) Daingerfield [sic], Judith, Linda, Teresa, Marian and Ruth; and two grandsons, all of Columbus.
    His parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Keyes, live at Stromsburg. Brothers surviving are Horace of San Jose, Calif., R. Stanley of Dallas, Tex.; and C. Duane of Shenandoah, Iowa.

BORER--F. J. Borer dies; funeral Wednesday
    Florence Joseph Borer, 58, 1650 39th Ave., died Sunday morning while working as a Pinkerton Guard at Platte College.
    Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Isidore Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Price officiating. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery at Lindsay.
    His body will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home. Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for the parish and friends and at 8 p.m. for relatives and immediate family.
    Mr. Borer was born March 23, 1912, at St. Bernard to Peter and Seraphine Lousberg Borer. After attending Lindsay Holy Family Schools he married Irene Albracht Jan. 30, 1934, at Holy Family Church. He farmed in the Lindsay community until moving to Columbus in 1955.
    He was a member of Holy Name Society, Holy Family Choir for 10 years, and a former member of the Humphrey Council, Knights of Columbus, as well as St. Isidore Catholic Church.
    Survivors include sons, Richard of Columbus and James of Lincoln; daughters, Mmes. Melvin (Elizabeth) Wessel, Steve (Joan) Jahn, both of Columbus; Bob (Donna) Zach, Humphrey; Earl (Lenore) Backes, Denver; Dave (Kathleen) McCauley, Chicago; Gary (Marie) Kyriss, Grand Island; Miss Bonnie, at home; 24 grandchildren; brother, Leo of Humphrey; sisters, Mmes. Rose Wiese, Theresa Wiese, Susan Dusel, all of Lindsay; Philomene Brenneis, North Bend; Albert (Pauline) Prothman, Albion; Lena Pottoff, Peru, Ill.; Joe (Barbara) Paulussen, Valley Falls, Kan.
    Preceding him in death were his parents; wife on March 29, 1953; sisters, Annie, Katherine, Elizabeth and Antonette.

BRAUN--Infant's graveside rites are held today
    Graveside rites for James A. Braun, three-week-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald L. Braun, 1638 20th Street, will be this afternoon at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Fr. Regis Watts will officiate.
    James died Wednesday at his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1970, here. His mother is the former Evelyn M. Zywiec.
    Other survivors include his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Braun of Columbus, and Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Zywiec of Silver Creek; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bosak of Fullerton and Mrs. Frank Konwinski of Silver Creek; and great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Dush of Duncan.
