My name is Donald Hansen, LTC, USA (Ret.), great grandson of Anders (Andrew) Hansen, 1856-1934, who immigrated from Denmark in 1874 and homesteaded 80 Acres in Joliet Township in 1881 (6 miles South and 1/2 mile West of Lindsay, Nebraska. He was one of the early members of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church located in Walker Township, across the road from the western boundary of Joliet Township and only a 1/2 mile from Anders’ homestead. Anders, his wife Mary, his mother Barbara, and at least 3 of his children are buried in his 8 person cemetery plot at the Bethany Cemetery. He was a successful farmer and business man in Platte County and served for a few years as Vice President of the Lindsay State Bank.
