Street and Avenue Guide

All streets and avenues are designated by number instead of name, streets extend east and west, avenues extend north and south. There are no dividing lines.

FIRST ST--Extends east and west along the south city limits.
THIRTEENETH ST--Is the principal business thoroughfare, extending east and west.
TWENTY-THIRD ST--Extends east and west along the north city limits.
TWELFH AVE--Extends north and south along the east city limits (officially there being no avenues below Twelfth).
TWENTY-SIXTH AVE--Extends north and south along the east end of the Court House.
FORTY-THIRD AVE--Extends north and south at the west city limits.

The house and building numbers on streets begin in each block with 01 on one side and 02 on the other side.

The house and building numbers on avenues begin in each block with 51 on one side and 52 on the other side.

For example after crossing 12th avenue going west the house numbers on any street would [be] 1201 1202 1203 and so on to the end of this block or after crossing 18th street going north the house numbers on any avenue would be 1851 1852 1853 and so on to the end of this block.

By this plan all house and building numbers on avenues are different than those on streets.

The odd numbers are on the south and east, the even numbers are on the north and west.
