The following is an Index of the transcription of the church books of the FREEWATER CONGRAGATIONAL CHURCH,
located in Antelope Township, Harlan County, Nebraska. The church was located approximately four miles east
of the town of Ragan, on two acres of land donated by John and Mahala Elliott.
It was built in the Southwest Corner of the SW Quarter of Section 13, Township 4, Range 17 West.
The records were handwritten and in some cases, difficult to decipher due to either the handwriting or
quality of the microfilm reproduction.
The manuscript holdings of the Nebraska State Historical Society include the records of many Nebraska churches.
These records are taken from the microfilm “Freewater Congregational, 1880-1906 MS2678” obtained from them
on interlibrary loan in September 2008. The box containing the microfilm had the following source information:
The Nebraska Conference Of The United Church of Christ. #9093
Series 3, Church Records of Defunct Congregations
Nebraska State Historical Society - Lincoln Roll #7, film MS2678
There were no ledgers or schedules of baptisms, marriages or deaths contained in this film
