St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery

1884

Located in the SW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of Section 29 in Bismarck Township
Recorded August 1978 by Lois E. Schultz

This cemetery is at the original site of St. Petri Lutheran Church of the General Synod. The church was formed in 1891. In the beginning the church was given 5 acres of land. On this they built the church and a parsonage. In June of 1897 both buildings were destroyed by a tornado. Some of the church records were also destroyed at that time. Some were at the home of the secretary and are still available. The buildings were rebuilt. In 1949-1950 the congregation moved the church building into Pilger, a town about 14 miles away. During the early years some families left this scongregation to help form or join a congregation to the south of that area known as St. John Lutheran Church of Howells. That church disbanded in the 1960s. The grounds are maintained by former members of the congregation. The records are in German and have been microfilmed and are available at the Nebraska State Historical Society in Lincoln.
