VAN HEUFELN, HENRY [January 9, 1852 - March 10, 1920]
Pneumonia Claims Victim - Aged Pioneer Succumbs After Brief Illness
    Henry Van Heufeln passed from this life on Wednesday afternoon after a brief illness. A week ago he was taken with influenza which soon developed into pneumonia and brought about his demise.
    It is planned to conduct the funeral services Saturday afternoon. Rev. ??ck will conduct the last sad rites.
    Henry Van Heufeln was born in Germany, January 9th, 1852. At the age of 18 years he came to America and located in Illinois. There he was united in marriage, at Macomas [sic], October 2, 1885, to Mrs. Zida Franzen. Two years later the family came to Nebraska and located in Platte county, and have resided on their farm just northwest of Leigh for the past twenty years. Mr. Van Heufeln was the father of four children, one of whom died in infancy, while those who survive are Ed, Herman and Emma. The deceased is also survived by his wife, who is very ill with pneumonia at this time, and three step sons, Otto, Heie and Frank Franzen. He was an industrious farmer, a kind and loving husband and father and a good friend and neighbor. He was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran church and for many years was a trustee in that organization, till failing health forced him to resign this position last winter.
