Warren Fusselman, Mrs. Katherine Heitz and Mrs. Lena Wiegert are Victims of The Grim Reaper.
Another old comrade and pioneer has answered the last roll call and gone to that final haven of rest. Warren Fusselman passed away at the home of his son P. N. Fusselman, north of Schuyler, on Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock. The deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis about two years ago and his usual rugged health gave way from that time on. About a month ago he was the victim of a second stroke of paralysis and this, coupled with a touch of the grippe, brought about his demise on Tuesday.
Warren Fusselman was born in Trumble county, Ohio, June 21st, 1841. When the civil war broke out he joined the northern army and for over four years fought to preserve the Union and to carry out Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. After the close of the war he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Shaw at Penoria, Iowa, October 21st, 1866. To this union 13 children were born of whom 8, together with the wife and mother, passed on before. Those who survive are: William Fusselman, Modale, Iowa; Mrs. F. A. Broger, Lindsay; Charles Fusselman, Jewell, Iowa; P. N. Fusselman, Schuyler, and Edgar Fusselman, Livingston, Montana.
Mr. Fusselman and family were among the early pioneers of this state, coming here in 1872 and homesteading on a farm just south of Leigh. He was therefore identified with the trials and hardships of frontier life and was very fond of relating anecdotes of the early days. Mrs. Fusselman departed this life on October 31, 1904 and since that time he has made his home among his children. He was a member of the local post of G. A. R. and also of the Masonic lodge in both of which he took great interest.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Congregational church Sunday at 1 o’clock p. m. Rev. J. M. Kokjer officiating, and will be held under Masonic rites. Interment will be made in the Leigh cemetery.

After an illness lasting about four weeks Mrs. Katherine Heitz, relict of the late John Melchior Heitz, passed away Tuesday evening at the home of her son Baltz, death being due to grippe and the infirmities attending old age. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Saturday) forenoon at ten o’clock from the Congregational church and the obsequies will be in charge of Rev. Kokjer. Interment will be made in the Leigh cemetery.
Katherine Hefti was born in Adlenbak, Glarus, Switzerland, January 1st, 1840. There she was united in marriage to John Melchior Heitz and in 1870 the family came to America, locating in Wisconsin where they remained one year and in 1871 came to Colfax county. In 1901 the husband and father passed to the Great Beyond and since then Mrs. Heitz has been making her home with her son Baltz. The deceased was the mother of two sturdy sons, Henry, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Baltz of this place, both of whom were at her bedside when the end came. In her demise the community mourns the loss of another one of its early pioneers and a lady possessed of many excellent qualities of heart and mind.

WIEGERT, LENA
THREE PIONEERS CALLED TO REST

Miss Lena Schrum was born in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, on April 13th, 1849. She grew to womanhood in the Fatherland and came to America at the age of 26 years locating at Millard, this state. She was twice united in marriage, one son Carsten Schrum, being the issue of the first union. In 1887 she was married to Christian Wiegert and to this union were born two sons, John and Charles. The family has resided in the community south of Leigh for a number of years and has always enjoyed the high esteem of neighbors and many friends. On November 17, 1908, Christian Wiegert passed to the Great Beyond and since that time his widow has lived in quiet seclusion on the home farm one mile south of town attended by her son, Charles, and step-son Christian. Last Saturday Mrs. Wiegeft did not appear as well as usual and about four o’clock in the afternoon while her sons had come to town for medical aid, she expired. Funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church by Rev. Klotsche on Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in the Leigh cemetery. Relatives from a distance who were in attendance at the funeral were: Henry Wiegert, of Creighton, Mr. and Mrs. John Luebs, of Schuyler, Mr. and Mrs. Carson Schrum, of Ashland and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bartz, of Gretna.
