LONGWITH, A. C. [February 15, 1883 - January 18, 1962]
A.C. Longwith Dies At Home
    A.C. Longwith, 78, a native of Schuyler, and retired rural and city mail carrier, died January 18 at Beebe Retirement Home.
    The Rev. David A. Cunningham officiated at the funeral rites at 2 p.m., Saturday at Bideaux-Porkoruy Chapel. Interment was at Schuyler Cemetery.
    Mr. Longwith was born in Schuyler February 15, 1883. He was a son of the late William and Louisa Cole Longwith.
    He and Ethel G. Furr were married April 22, 1909 in Schuyler. She preceded him in death in 1941.
    Mr. Longwith joined the postal service as a rural carrier when Schuyler had five routes and mail was delivered by horse and buggy. When city delivery was inaugurated, Mr. Longwith transferred to city service. He retired in 1945 after 33 years of service. Before becoming a mail carrier he worked for the telephone company and clerked in the J. A. Pence store.
    Surviving are four sons, Chester of Tonowanda, N.Y., Fred and John of Fremont, and Richard of Hastings; two daughters Bertrice, Mrs. Wayne Hiner, and Evelyn, Mrs. Harold Legler, of Schuyler; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
    He was also preceded in death by a son, James in 1945, while serving with the armed forces, and several brothers and sisters.
