Henry G. Vanis (1915-1 Dec 1943) WW II
Henry G. Vanis, son of Vincenz James Vanis, buried Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, MO, section 79, site 449c-E.  SSGT Vanis died Dec 1, 1943, last known address, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO.  His brother, Theodore Vanis, WW II and wounded in Korea.  His brother Julius Vanis, WW II.
His father, Vincent James Vanis, born Jan. 7., 1888,  registered for the WW I Draft, living at the time in Garrison, Butler county, NE, wife Julia M. [probably 2nd wife].  Vincenc or Vincent immigrated to USA, arriving at Ellis Island on June 24, 1893, with his parents, Jan "John" and Anna Vanis, and a brother Alois Vanis, sailing on board The Dania, which departed Hamburg, Germany. The Vanis ethnicity is Austrian [Bohemian in census].  The 1930 Nebraska census has Henry's middle initial as the letter G, as does his burial information; Henry was listed as a 15 year old farm laborer in that census.
