Services Held Monday For Alphonso Nicolas

Funeral conducted Monday morning at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Bellwood for Alphonso C, Nicolas, 55. Officiating was the Rev. G. C. Messman.  Pallbearers were Dwaine Schmit, Lawrence Meister, Gerald Schmit, Joe Nicolas, Harold Cockson and Pete Nicolas. Burial was in St. Peter's and St. Mary's Cemetery.  Relatives from California, Columbus, and David City were among those coming from a distance to attend the services.   Alphonso C. Nicolas, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Schmit) Nicolas, was born Sept. 26, 1910, at Bellwood.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Francis. Two brothers, George of Bellwood and Leo of Alhambra, Calif., survive him.

Elizabeth C. (Schmit) Nicolas 1887-1950

LAST RITES SAID FOR MRS. ELIZABETH C. NICOLAS

Services were held Thursday. Feb 9, at 10 a. m. in St. Peter's Catholic church for Mrs. Elizabeth C. Nicolas, 63, who died February 6. The Rev. Father Messman conducted the service in the church and said the last rites at the grave in St. Peter's and St. Mary's cemetery. The church choir sang, accompanied by Mrs. A. C. Kosch. Serving as pall bearers were Harold Cockson, Jerome Meister, Peter and Joseph Nicolas, Jr., Gerald and Loran Schmit.  Mrs. Nicolas' death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage and diabetes.   She had been ill four months and she passed away in St. Mary's hospital,   Columbus, NE.  She was the widow of Frank W. Nicolas, who died November 13, 1947.  Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Schmit, preceded her in death also.   Born on a farm eight miles west of Bellwood, November 20, 1886. Mrs. Nicolas had lived in that vicinity her entire life. She and Mr. Nicolas were married September 8,1909 in St. Peter's church.  Four sons were born to them, three of whom, Alfonso, George and Leo are living and are residents of this locality. Francis died in 1937.  Other near relatives are: two grandsons, Duane and Harold Lee Nicolas; two sisters, Miss Anna Schmit of Bellwood and Mrs. May Meister of Bellwood: and two brothers, Nick and Peter Schmit of Rising City.  In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schmit and son, Leo, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Olinger and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Nordhues of Pierce county, Mrs. Hubert Vandervegt and son George and Mrs. Neal Vandervegt of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Beckius, Mrs. Mary Beckius, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wiebold of Schuyler, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sample of Belgrade, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Stuchl of Redfleld, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nicolas, Sr., Mrs. Nellie Cockson, and Mrs. Valarie Nicolas of Columbus, Mrs. James Rush of Ralston, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Albers, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rinke, Mrs. Rose Nicolas. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Nicolas and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nicolas of Shelby, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Meister of Osceola, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meister of Stromsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Morbach, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Havlena, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Birkel, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Meysenburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Meister of David City.

FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAY FOR FRANK W. NICOLAS (1879-1947)

Frank W. Nicolas, 68, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13th at his home West of Bellwood. He had been ill for the last four years.  The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nicolas, he was born November 14, 1879 in Butler County on a farm west of Bellwood where he spent his entire life farming.  He was united in marriage to Elizabeth C. Schmit September 8, 1909 at St. Peter's Catholic church, Bellwood. To this union were born four sons: Alphonse, George, Francis and Leo. Francis passed away June 24, 1937 and the other three reside at home.  He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic church in Bellwood.   He is survived also by his wife, two grand children, four brothers, George and Joseph of Columbus, Peter of Bellwood and Louis of Shelby and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Cockson of Columbus.  Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock in St. Peter's church with Rev. D. B. O'Conner in charge. Burial was in the Luxemburg cemetery.
