David City HS.  1951 grad UN College of Law.  1947: Married.  1951: Moved to Box Butte County, NE.   Was Box Butte County attorney (1952-57); District Judge 16th Judicial District (1966-92).   Member of several organizations; served in assorted capacities.   Died Friday, 11 Jul 2003, Alliance, Box Butte, NE. Survived by wife & 8 children.   Predeceased by his parents, an infant son, 2 brothers (John & Richard).  Memorial service: Monday 14 Jul at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Alliance NE.   Bates-Gould Funeral Home in charge.  Body donated to Creighton University for medical research.

Anne E. (Hanus) Morbach 1915-1985

Funeral services for Anne. E. Morbach, 70, of David City were conducted Wednesday morning July 24, from St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City.  Mrs. Morbach died July 21 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Omaha.  Pallbearers were Mike Trainor, Jr., Kevin Study, Jeff Study, David Macoubrie, Mark Macoubrie, and James Morbach, Jr. Burial was in St. Mary's and St. Peter's Cemetery, Bellwood.  Anne, the daughter of Leo and Mary (Mach) Hanus, was born July 14, 1915, at Omaha. On Nov.16, 1937. She was married to John M. Morbach. Six children were born to this union.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, PCGW and St. Mary's Guild.  Survivors include her husband, John of David City; two sons, James and Dan Morbach of Bellwood; three daughters, Marie Trainor of Lincoln, Mrs. Bill (Helen) Macoubrie of Bellwood, and Mrs. Jerry (Margaret) Study of Lincoln; two brothers. Leo Hanus of Columbus and Joe Hanus of David City; four sisters, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Steager, Mrs. Sylvester (Emily) Hilger, and Mrs. Clarence (Ludmilla) Birkel, of David City, and Sister Marietta (Beatrice) of Guatemala; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one son.

Anne Gertrude (Puetz) Morbach 1883-1958

Funeral Services April 9 For Mrs. Nicholas Morbach

Funeral services for Mrs. Nicholas Morbach, 74, who died at her home in David City was held at St. Mary's Church on April 11. Officiating at the Solemn High Mass was Msgr. Lisko assisted by Father Birkel and Father Ketter.  Music was by the church choir.   Pallbearers were John Homan of Cedar Rapids, Nebr. Lawrence Puetz, Matt Birkel, S. J. Demuth. John M. Morbach, and Wm. Puetz of Sioux City, Iowa.  Burial was at St. Mary's and St. Peter's cemetery, Bellwood.  Mrs. Morbach was born May 3, 1883, near Bellwood, the daughter of Margaret Reisdorff and Mathias Puetz. In 1906, she was married to Nicholas Morbach at Presentation Church, Marietta. They lived near Bellwood, then moved to a farm near Octavia, and the last 17 years Mrs. Morbach had lived in David City. She had been ill for past year.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the P.C.C.W. and Living Rosary, which organizations attended the funeral services in a body.   Surviving her are her daughter, Mrs. Anthony Dworak, three grandchildren, Don, Jean and Mary Dworak, two sisters, Mrs. John Homan Sr. of Cedar Rapids, Nebr., and Mrs. John Morbach of Bellwood, and three brothers, John Puetz of Albion and Nick and Wm. Puetz of David City.  Preceding her in death were her husband and two children, Helen and Ferdinand.

Cornelius P. Morbach 1879-1953

Cornelius Morbach Services Conducted

Funeral services for Cornelius P. Morbach, 74 David City resident were held at 9:30 a. m. Monday Dec.14, from St. Mary's Catholic church, David City The Rev. Alphonse Lisko officiated at the requiem high mass. Music was by St. Mary's School choir.  Mr. Morbach, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Morbach, was born Oct. 1, 1879 on a farm near Bellwood. In 1904, on Jan.12, he was married to Mary S. Meysenburg at Luxemburg church near Bellwood. They farmed in the Bellwood and Octavia vicinity until 1930 when they moved to David City where they have since made their home. He died at Clarkson hospital in Omaha Friday, Dec. 11, following an illness of several months.  Surviving him are his wife, Mary; grandson, Gerald DeWispelare of Octavia,  and a brother, Nick Morbach of David City. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Mrs. Geneva DeWispelare and two brothers, Joseph and John Morbach.  The pallbearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Alfred Birkel and Anthony Dworak of David City, John A. Meysenburg of Wahoo, Harry and John Morbach Jr. of Bellwood and Walter Smith of Plattsmouth. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery at Bellwood.  Attending the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Smith and John Smith of Omaha, Walter Smith of Plattsmouth, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hiller of Hebron and John A. Meysenburg of Wahoo.

Elizabeth (Schmit) Morbach 1856-1926

After an illness of 19 days, Mrs. John Morbach, Sr., for nearly 48 years a resident of Butler county, died of heart trouble Monday, May 31, at 8:00pm at the home of her youngest son Joseph J. Morbach, near Bellwood, She was in her 71st year.  Mrs. Morbach is survived by her husband and four children, seven grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. The children are Cornelius P. of Octavia, Nicholaus, John II and Joseph of Bellwood and the sisters are Sr. M. Catherine of the Ursuline convent, York, Neb., Sr. M. Eleanora of the Notre Dame convent, Phillipeville, Belguim, and Mrs. Henry Ronkar of Bellwood The funeral services were held on Thursday morning, June 3, at 9:30 in St Mary's church on the valley. Rev. Father Mock celebrated the Requiem High Mass, assisted by Rev. Father Wagner of Shelby and Rev. Father Cramer of David City. The pallbearers were John Didier, John Ronkar, Mike Ronkar, Jr., Nick Schmit, John Schmit and Ben Siebenaler. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery on the valley.  In attendance at the funeral from a distance were Sisters Catherine and Loretto of York, Mrs. John Schmit, Miss Loretta Schmit, John Schmit, Nick Schmit, Neal Schmit, Joe Schmit, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Olinger and Mr. and Mrs. Gaadenkaul of Osmond, Theodore Graff of Atkinson, Mrs. Weber of Hebron, Matt Siebenaller and son, Ben from Elm Creek, John Siebenaler of Olpe, Kan., Mrs John Homan and children and Matt Puetz and Theodore Sauser of Cedar Rapids, Peter Speicher and family from Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Wacal, William Ellerman and Miss Edyth Ellerman from West Point, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Morrisse and Ben Schlentz of Elgin, and Mrs. Catherine Beckius and children from Schuyler.  Elizabeth Schmit was devoted to her husband and children and was a faithful follower of her faith and religion. By her sweet, unassuming ways and frequent deeds of kindliness, she had made many and sincere friends.

Services held at Bellwood Saturday for Evelyn Marie Morbach

Funeral services for Evelyn Marie Morbach. 61, of Omaha, were conducted Saturday morning, Oct. 3, from Presentation Catholic Church in Bellwood.  Miss Morbach died Thursday, Oct. 1, following a short illness.  Father Paul Rutten officiated at the services. Mrs. Gussie Wilson was the organist.  Pallbearers were Joseph Morbach, Terry Morbach, Mike Maillard, Tim Morbach, Mark Maillard and Gerald Hamata. Burial was in St: Mary's (Marietta) Cemetery, Bellwood.  Relatives and friends attending the services came from Miami, Fla., Detroit, Mich., Rapid City, S. D., Ames, la.. Vandalia, Ohio and Schuyler and Omaha.  Evelyn Marie Morbach. the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Ellerman) Morbach was born July 8, 1920, at Bellwood. She attended Marietta grade and high School, St. Joseph's School of Nursing and Creighton University She was member of the Catholic Church.  She was employed as a United States Air Force Nurse from 1942 to 1945 and worked for the Civil Service in Veterans Hospitals for 27 years.  Survivors include her mother. Marie Morbach three brothers, Harry L. Morbach of Bellwood, Robert N. Morbach of Miami. Fla., and Donald J. Morbach of Detroit, Mich two sisters, Josephine Wilkerson of Vandalia. Ohio and Rosemarie Maillard of Omaha.  Her father, Joseph Morbach preceded her in death.

Harry Lee Morbach 1922-1984

Funeral services for Harry L. Morbach of Bellwood were conducted Monday morning, April 16, Presentation Church. Mr. Morbach; 61 died Friday, April 13, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, following an illness of three weeks, due to a heart attack.  Father Paul Rutten celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial. Altar boys were Marty Kobza, Danny Hanus, Jimmy Morbach and Danny Morbach. Bernard Hain was the organist. Third and Fourth degree members of the Knights of Co1umbus attended in a body. Pallbearers were John Morbach, Al Hanus, Joe Kopecky, Valerian Svoboda, Don Svoboda and Fred Vandenberg. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Bellwood.  Harry L Morbach, the son of Joseph and Marie Ellerman Morbach, was born Oct.31, 1922, at Bellwood, attended Marietta grade school and High School.  On Nov.18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Legler at Presentation Church. Five children were born to this union.  From 1945 to 1951 they made their home in Schuyler. In 1951 they moved to the family farm near Bellwood. He managed the farm until his death.  He had also been employed by the Farmers Coop Grain-Hardware Dept. in Bellwood for the past 18 years. He was a member of the Catholic Church, the third and Fourth Degree Order of the Knights of Columbus. and F.O.E. of Schuyler.  He was a member of the Schuyler Merchants Baseball Team in the Pioneer Nite League.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, two sons, David J. Morbach of Anchorage, Alaska, and Joseph J. Morbach of Ft. Worth Texas, three daughters, Mignon (Doll) Hamata of Schuyler, Sheila Lyons of  Houston, Texas, and Kimberly Morbach of Ft. Worth, Texas; two brothers, Donald J. Morbach of Detroit, Mich., and Robert N. Morbach of Miami, Fla., two sisters, Josephine Wilkerson of Vandaua, Ohio, and Rosemarie Maillard of Omaha, his mother, Marie Morbach, and five grandchildren, Heather and Tasha Hamata, Christine Morbach and John and Edward Morbach.  His father, Joseph J. Morbach and his sister, Evelyn Morbach, preceded him in death.

John L. Morbach 1942-1963

A Bellwood farm youth, John Morbach, 20, who was injured Wednesday morning May 8 in a tractor-truck accident on Highway 64 east of Bellwood died Tuesday morning May 13 at St. Elizabeth hospital in Lincoln.  Funeral services will he held at 9:30 this morning (Thursday) from Presentation Church with burial in St Mary's Cemetery, Bellwood. Knott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  John was driving a tractor east on the highway about seven o'clock in the morning when an eastbound semi-trailer truck driven Edward Dolph of Ft. Morgan Colo. struck the tractor virtually demolishing it and critically injuring young Morbach.  He was pinned in the wreckage for a time until freed by the Bellwood Rescue Squad which rushed him to David City Hospital. later in the morning be was taken to the Lincoln hospital after it had been determined he had a broken leg, dislocated hip, broken ribs and internal injuries.

John Mathias Morbach 1914-1996

Mr. Morbach was born Jun. 9, 1914, Bellwood to John P. and Augusta (Puetz) Morbach. He married Anne Hanus Nov. 16, 1937. They made their home two miles east of Bellwood where they famed until 1979 when they moved to David City.  He was a member of St. Mary's catholic Church in David City and always supported the Catholic Schools.  Mr. Morbach had always been active in the community. He drove the busy Wheels for the Senior Center, delivered Meals On Wheels and took many people to doctor appointments.  He served on the Bellwood Coop Board, the Rural Fire Board and was a Trustee for the Presentation Parish near Bellwood.  Survivors include two sons, James J. and Daniel J., both of Bellwood; three daughters, Marie A. Fletcher of Petaluma, Calif., Helen Macoubrie of Bellwood and Margaret Study of Lincoln; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anne and one son, John L. Morbach.  Services were held Nov. 5 at Presentation Catholic church near Bellwood with father Leo Kosch officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's and St. Peter's cemetery near Bellwood.  Pallbearers were Michael Trainor, Kevin Study, David Macoubrie, Jeffrey Study, Mark Macoubrie, James A. Morbach, Daniel L. Morbach and John C. Morbach.

Last Rites Held Saturday For John P. Morbach (1888-1953)

John P. Morbach passed away at the David City hospital Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 4:15 p. m. from a lingering Illness of two and a half months.  Funeral services were held Saturday morning in Presentation parish Bellwood.

Rev. D. E. Cooper, assisted by Rev. Clarence Reisdorff of York and Rev. John Prachar, of David City was celebrant of the requiem high mass. Msgr. John Ekeler, of Crete, gave the sermon. Music was furnished by the church choir with Sister M. Doretta organist.   Mr. Morbach was born May 19, 1888 in Bellwood. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Morbach, Sr.  He was married to Mary Augusta Puetz November 26,1912 in Presentation parish, Bellwood. One son, John M. Morbach was born to this union, who survives his father. He is survived by his wife and son, six grandchildren and two brothers, Nick and Cornelius Morbach, of David City.  He was preceded In death by his parents and one brother, Joseph.  Mr. Morbach was a farmer by occupation, living on a farm near Bellwood. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church and a kindly man devoted to his family.  Pallbearers were Clarence Birkel, Rudolph Eberly, Jake Hiller, Frank Markus, Harry Morbach and Lawrence Puetz interment was in the Presentation St. Peter's cemetery.   Those attending the funeral from a distance were Harold Birkel of Conception. Last Rites Said Saturday for Joseph John Morbach (1892-1951)

Funeral rites for Joseph John Morbach, who died at his house on the valley January 24, were held an Presentation church. Luxemburg, Saturday morning.  Solemn High Mass was said at 9:30 o'clock with the following as celebrants: the Rev. D. E. Cooper. pastor of Presentation church. the Rev. Clarence Reisdorff of Lincoln, the Rev. Valerie Durr of David City. and Monsignor John Ekeler of Crete. Interment was in St. Mary's and St. Peter's cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Joseph Schmit of Osmond, John M. Morbach, Anthony Dworak, Peter J. Schmit. Peter C Schmit and Arthur Ronkar.  Mr. Morbach was 59 years and 10 days of age, he having been born January 14. 1892. He had been a resident of the Luxemburg vicinity his entire life his parents, John Morbach and Elizabeth Schmit Morbach. being among the early day settlers of the parish.  His wife, the former Marie Ellerman of West Point, to whom he was married September 10, 1918, survives him. He leaves also three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Wilkerson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Miss Evelyn of Sioux Falls, S. D and Miss Rosemarie of Omaha, three sons Harry, of Schuyler, Robert of St Petersburg, Fla., and Donald of Omaha; three grandchildren; and three brothers, J. P. Morbach of Bellwood and Nick and C. P. Morbach of David City.   All of the immediate relatives were present at the last rites said for Mr. Morbach. Others coming from away besides the children were Curtis Wilkerson of Oklahoma City, a son-in-law, Mrs. Harry Morbach of Schuyler, a daughter-in-law; Mr. And Mrs. F. H. Mr. Morbach was actively identified with the church throughout the years lending his support to anything that tended towards advancement of the church and community.  He had the same interest for his family, seeing that his children were given the advantages of a comfortable home.  That they had religious training and that they had the opportunity for a higher education.

Marie Henrietta (Ellerman) Morbach 1900-1985

Funeral services for Marie Henrietta Morbach of Bellwood were conducted Tuesday morning, Oct.22, from Presentation Catholic Church, Bellwood, with Father Gerald Vap celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Mrs. Morbach, 85, died Sunday, Oct.20, at Schuyler Memorial Hospital.  Pallbearers were Gerald DeWispelare, Terry Morbach, Timothy Morbach, David Morbach, Toby Morbach and Gerald Hamata. James Morbach was an honorary pallbearer Burial was in the parish cemetery.  Out of town relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Wilkerson of Vandalia, Ohio, Dr. and Mrs. James Maillard of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Morbach and family of Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morbach of Miami, Fla., and David Morbach of Alaska.  Marie Morbach, the daughter of Henry and Julia Ellerman, was born Sept.10, 1900, at Wisner.  A homemaker, she was a member of the Catholic faith and the Catholic Daughters of Americas.   Survivors include two sons, Robert Morbach of Miami, Fla., and Donald Morbach of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Josephine Wilkerson of Dayton, Ohio, and Rosemarie Maillard of Omaha; and one sister, Ethel Rieler of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mary Augusta Morbach, First Villa Resident, Dies Sunday

Funeral services for Mary Augusta Morbach, 93, a resident of St. Joseph's Villa, were conducted Wednesday morning from St. Mary's Catholic Church, David City. Mrs. Morbach, 93 died Sunday, April 29, at the Butler County Hospital, following a one day illness.   Msgr. A. J. Lisko celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial. Members of the PCCW attended in a body. Pallbearers were James Morbach, Daniel Morbach, Michael Trainor, Kevin Study, David Macoubrie and Jeff Study. Burial was in St. Mary's and St. Peter's Cemetery at Bellwood.  Relatives and friends from Omaha, Lincoln, Osmond, Columbus, Seward, and towns in the David City area attended the services. Mary Augusta Morbach, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Puetz, was born April 4, 1891, at Bellwood. On Nov. 26, 1912, she was united in marriage to John P. Morbach. One son was born to this union. A lifetime resident of Butler County, she made her home in Bellwood until 1967 when she moved to David City to make her home at St. Joseph's Villa. She was the first resident admitted to the Villa when it opened in March1967. She was a member of the Catholic Church and the Altar Society, Survivors include a son, John M. Morbach of David City; five grandchildren, Marie Trainor, Helen Macoubrie, Margaret Study, James Morbach and Daniel Morbach; and 15 great-grandchildren.  Her parents, husband, and grandson, John L. Morbach, preceded her in death.

Mary M. (Meysenburg) Morbach 1882-1975

Mary M. Morbach, the daughter of John and Susan Reisdorff Meysenburg, was born December 16, 1882, on a farm near Bellwood. On January 12. 1904, she was married to C. P. Morbach at Luxemburg Church near Bellwood. One daughter.  Geneva. was born to this union. They farmed in the Bellwood and Octavia vicinity until 1930. when they moved to David City.  Mrs. Morbach was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.  Survivors are a grandson, Gerald F. DeWispelare of Octavia; a great-granddaughter, Mrs. Ed (Debra) Birkel of Norfolk; a great grandson, Michael DeWispelare of rural David City; and a sister, Mrs. Kate Smith of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Geneva DeWispelare, one sister and two brothers.  Attending the services from a distance were relatives and friends from Georgia, Texas, Norfolk, Fremont, Lincoln, Omaha, Plattsmouth and Wahoo and the surrounding Butler County area.

Birkel, organist.   The pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Morbach, John and Harry Morbach of Bellwood, Don Morbach of Omaha, Lawrence Puetz and Matt and Clarence Birkel.  Burial was in the Valley Luxemburg cemetery, Bellwood.  Mr. Morbach was born July 18, 1883, near Bellwood, and he lived in Butler county all of his life.  On Jan. 17, 1906, at St. Mary's (Marietta) Church, he was married and to this union were born three children. For many years the family resided on a farm near Octavia, and for the past 18 years, Mr. and Mrs. Morbach had lived in David City.  Mr. Morbach died at his home on Wednesday, July 6, 1955.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Helen and Ferdinand, and three brothers.  Survivors include his, wife Anne, one daughter, Mrs. Anthony Dworak and three grandchildren, Don, Jean and Mary Dworak.  Those coming from a distance to attend the funeral included Mrs. Joe Morbach, Mrs. H. J. Smith and Miss Loretta Demuth of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Olinger and Joe Schmit of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kosch of Shelby, Mr. and Mrs. John Puetz and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meysenburg and family of Albion, Mr. and Mrs. John Homan, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Gering, Mrs. Matt Homan, Mrs. Art Primrose and Pete Beckius of Fremont, and friends and relatives from Bellwood, Rising City and Surprise.

Albert Eugene "Gene" Moyer, 68, of Bellwood died Saturday, Feb.13, 1999, at South Padre Island, Texas.  Mr. Moyer was born Nov.11, 1930, in Bellwood to James and Bernice (Treadway) Moyer.  He married Dorothy Schmit Feb. 9, 1948, at St. 'Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood.  He lived in Bellwood and worked at Polly 'Shoe' Store before becoming a supervisor at Behlen Mfg. Co., both in Columbus.   He was currently serving on thc Bellwood Town Board, was a former mayor of Bellwood, a fireman with the Bellwood Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Eagles Club in Columbus.  Survivors include one daughter Cheryl Rech-Kaspar, and her husband, Norman Kaspar, and two grandchildren, Karen Rech of Jacksonville, Fla., and Chad Rech and his wife, Tracy, of Benicia, Calif.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 1992.  Services were held Friday, Feb. 19, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood with Father Leo Seiker officiating.  Burial was at the, Bellwood Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Ron Kallenbach, Dennis Kallenbach, Marti Kallenbach, Jim Kallenbach, Alan Baade, and Brian Wilson.

Services Held for Dorothy Moyer

Services for Dorothy A, Moyer of Bellwood were conducted Wednesday morning, May 15, from St. Peter's Catholic Church in Bellwood. Mrs. Moyer, 60, died Sunday, May 12. at the Brandenburgh Lakes In Bellwood.  Father Mark Seiker celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial. Dan Schmit, vocalist, was accompanied by Dorothy Oborny, organist.   Pallbearers were Ron Kallenbach, Denny Kallenbach, Marty Kallenbach, Jim Kallenbach, Todd Kallenbach, Ken Kallenbach and Cory Kallenbach. Burial was in St. Peters Cemetery at Bellwood.  Dorothy A. Moyer, the daughter of Peter J. and Gertrude Schmit, was born June 19, 1930, at Bellwood. She attended school at Marietta.  On Feb. 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Albert (Gene) Moyer at Bellwood.  One daughter was born to this union.  She lived in the Bellwood area all of her life. She was employed at Becton-Dickinson, Columbus for 25 years.  She was a member of the Catholic Church, the P.C.C.W. and the Bellwood Fireman's Auxiliary.  She is survived by her husband, Gene Moyer: a son-in-law and daughter, Terry and Cheryl J. Rech of David City: two brothers, Donald Schmit of Fremont and Orville Schmit of Columbus; three stepbrothers, Laverne and Bill Kozisek of David City and Gene Kozisek of Missouri; a sister, Lorene Kallenbach of Bellwood; a stepsister, Mrs. Roger (Maxine) Bredahl of Columbus; two grandchildren, Karen and Chad Rech and a stepmother. Rose Schmit of David City.  Her parents and a brother, Eugene Schmit, preceded her in death.
