Clinton Walter Buntgen 1914-1983

Funeral services for a retired David City businessman, Clinton Walter (Spike) Buntgen, 69, of David City were held Friday morning, Nov. 18, from St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. A. J. Lisko officiating. Mr. Buntgen died Nov.16 at the Butler County Hospital following a lengthy illness.  Mrs. Ray Vanis was organist. Dan Hook was commentator. Pallbearers were Louis Martin, Richard Birkel, Jim Kobza, Marion McLaughlin, Francis Lukassen and Lloyd Hascall. Military graveside services were conducted. by members of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of David City. Burial was in St.  Mary's Cemetery.   Clinton Buntgen, the son of Peter and Antonia (Janousek) Buntgen, was horn Aug. 6, 1914, at Rising City. He graduated from David City High School in 1934.  On Oct.27, 1947, he married Rose Milburn. Six children were born to this union. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and V.F.W.  During his three years in the military he received three Battle Stars, the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and the Arrowhead for Initial landing. He was with the 32nd Division which was the first in action against the enemy on foreign soil during World War II. They were the first infantry unit to arrive in New Guinea.  He was engaged in the produce business here during his business career, operating Butler County Produce for a number of years preceding his retirement.  Survivors include his wife, Rose, four sons, Wayne, Larry and Richard of Lincoln, and William of David City, two daughters, Mrs. David (Linda) Mclntire of Omaha and Susan of Lincoln, a brother, Harry of David City, two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Clara) Thomazin of Grinnel, IA, and Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Kilgore of David City, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles (Ruthe) Buntgen of David City, and six grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles.   Relatives attending the services were from Grinnel, Ia., Fort Morgan, Colo., North Platte, Omaha, Lincoln, St. Edward, Columbus, Genoa, and Bellwood.
