Hello, I have just completed a genealogy of the YOUNG family of colonial Maryland. I am still trying to learn more of this family - where did it come from in England, what is their history in England, etc, etc. The family is the family of Notley Rozer YOUNG of Prince Georges County. Well, so far I have managed to gather a rather extensive bit of information on Notley. What I would like to know is more about his origins. His father was Benjamin of Cerne Abbey Manor, P.G. Co. Md. I do know that Benjamin YOUNG came to Md. in 1700 and that his son Notley's home was called Nonesuch Manor, also in P.G. County. Thanks for your assistance. John Robira robbie@olg.com

I have had the worst time in finding anything out about my great-great-great grandmother, Permilia CARRICK. What I know is that she married Benjamin OGLE of "Belair Plantation" Bowie, Maryland, Prince Georges County, in 1837, she was born in 1813 have no idea where and can't find a record of her death. Her husband Benjamin committed suicide in 1839 at his father's land known then as the "President" I believe that was in Anne Arundal Co., Maryland. I just wanted to let you know of the Bicentennial celebration of Hyattstown, Md. which will be held in Oct. The festival will be held Oct. 17. I am especially interested in it since my 3rd great grandfather Jesse HYATT is given credit for founding the town. Is the Prince George's Roots Web Project doing something to advertise this event to the many people who must have ancestors who originated from that little town? I hope so. The only way I found out about it was through Dona CUTTLER of S.C. who has done much research on HYATT and has even written a book on Hyattstown. We are both of the same HYATT line. If you can in anyway get the message out regarding the Bicentennial, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Donna Rock DLRCSJ@AOL.COM

I recently found out that Dorcas CLARK's parents were Benjamin CLARK and Mary Wish Bone-a local Indian maiden. Any ideas? Benjamin died in 1803 and married Rachel CHANEY (after Mary Wish Bone) in March of 1788. It is speculated that Benjamin and Mary Wish Bone had seven children including Dorcas CLARK, born 1770. Benjamin is related to Elizabeth DUVALL and Abraham CLARK. Elizabeth is Mareen the Emigrant's daughter. I am not sure what tribes of Indians were in PG Co at that time. I believe that the Potamacks were but am not sure. Did you ever run across the name Mary Wish Bone before? Thank you! Nancy Broderick JMesana@aol.com

Trying to locate data on Jacob IGLEHEART (elder) and Jane PERRY. Earliest record found in PG Co is 1740 witnessed will of Robert Wheeler, and 1754 land sale. When did he die? His son Jacob died between 1798 and 1799, estate papers document his heirs as his seven brothers and sisters. There is land involved that may well have been his father's, a transaction was made in 1772, so apparently he died before that date. Have checked "zillions" of passenger lists in effort to find his arrival, before 1740; family compilations say he or father came ca 1710 from England, but have never been able to prove that the compilations are correct. The Igleheart/Igleharts married into the PERRY, DENUNE, LUCKETT, SELLMAN, DAVIDSON,BEAL, CROSS, BOYD, SMOOT, STOCKETT, WHEELER, SOPER, NICHOLS, NICHOLSON, HARWOOD, WELSH families. There supposedly is a Capt. John IGLEHEART buried somewhere in Baltimore County, having died 1733; yet to find this site. There are several of us searching now in earnest for a year, but still cannot locate documentation. Barbara Lucas Dixeebarb@aol.com

My gg-grandfather Henry PAYNE (1842-1907), born in Derbyshire, England, made two unsuccessful attempts to settle in the USA in the late 1800's. In his second visit, probably in 1880, or thereabouts, with his eldest son (and my g-grandfather, Charles Vincent PAYNE b. Jan 1868) he "took up a farm at Bladensburg, 4 miles from Washington D.C.", but stayed for only a year or so, probably going back to Derbyshire, England in mid-1881 "leaving all crops growing". I am trying to find out more about his stay there, and I wonder if anyone can help with a few queries. C.D.B. Payne geops@harare.iafrica.com

Am trying to document our family in Bladensburg @ 1810-1815+. John BYNG m. Mary MCVEY. Plantation burned to the ground during War of 1812. John died in Georgetown, D.C. in 1815, but MCVEY found on 1820 Bladensburg census. I am also searching for BING in Cecil Co. MD. Listed in "Inhabitants of Cecil Co." 1649-1774, is a John BING, 1742, bought "Baker's Addition." Also listed in tax list in 1761 for South Milford Hundred in 1761 and 1766 with a George BING (we have lots of those too). I'm trying to tie in with John BYNG/BING who was born in Pa in 1773 and moved to MD by 1812. Someone in our search group mentioned a John b. 1720 and I thought perhaps that might be the John in Cecil Co. Wondered if he might be the grandfather of my John b. 1773. The first instances of my William HARBIN that I have been able to find in America are as a witness for the will of Eliza BRADFORD in Prince George County in 1710, and the birth of a child (John) at St. Barnabas Church, Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George County in 1711, and then a deed in 1717 which says he was of Prince George County. Question: What would you do to trace him back to where he was before then? What port would he have been likely to have come to? I am wondering about Calvert, St. Mary's and Anne Arundel counties, but which would be most likely? What parish was St. Barnabas created from? Thank you for any suggestions or insights. Does anyone have a copy, or access to a copy, of the Marriage License Book for 1777-1801 for PGCo?
If so, would you please be willing to look up page 147 to see if my ggg grandparents' marriage is indeed listed there as I've been told by an elderly relative of mine. My ggg grandparents were William REYNOLDS & Nancy Ann GRIFFITH. She may be listed as Ann GRIFFITH instead of Nancy Ann. I'd like to know if she is listed as Nancy or Ann. Also, I'm hoping that the listing will show the names of the Bride & Groom's parents. As I'm really trying hard to find out the names of Nancy Ann GRIFFITH's parents so that I can trace her ancestry. Help needed with very tough nut to crack: HIPKINS family, of Howard County, Montgomery County, and other counties in Maryland. My ggf Charles David HIPKINS was born in 1818, died in 1902. He married Mary Anne CLARKE of Prince George County (I think) who was born June 11, 1927. She died 1910. Their children were Emma Adele HIPKINS (my grandmother, who married Samuel A. LEHMAN), Tom Burkette HIPKINS, Will Rufus HIPKINS, Crittendon Hipkins, (who married Carrie Ruble of Boyds,) Mary A. (who married Henry WOOD). And Annie, who never married. I have not been able to find the ancestors of Charles David HIPKINS. His mother is supposed to be Mary RIDGELY, but this has not been proved. Mary Anne CLARKE's parents are supposed to be Daniel CLARKE (the brother of John Rogers CLARKE?) and Mary Anne DUVAL. This is not proven either. Anyone who knows of this family and can help please contact me. Jacqueline Lehman Davidson jalfred@discover.earthlink.net

I am still looking for info. on the above listed surnames - however more specific people this time.
Charles BEAVEN(in) 1622- Abt 1699 married Martha Paca PAULEY of MD. Their son, or the only one I know about was Richard BEAVEN 1674- Abt. 1739. I am seeking more info. on Charles BEAVEN & Martha PACA. Someone told me that PACA was a prominent name in either St. Mary's or Prince Geo. County, MD. William CARTER married Mary SPALDING. They had one son, (again, that I know of) Joseph. Joseph married Mary BEAVIN. These folks lived in the early to mid 1700's. I believe in MD and then KY perhaps Nelson county. I have absolutely no info. on William or Mary. And, last but not least, the elusive WHEATLEY family. I see a lot of posting for this family but no one seems to know much more than I do. Joseph WHEATLEY 1801-? married Mary Ann ASKINS. They had a daughter Susan Frances 1846-1926 who married James W. MATTINGLY. James is descended from Thomas MATTINGLY I of MD. Well that is about it. If anyone hears bells ringing please let me know. I will be most happy to share what I do have. Thanks again. Rita Lewis RitaofKY@aol.com

Looking for information about John B. HINTON born about 1790 I believe in PGC MD. He married Nancy Ann CAMBRON, daughter of Henry CAMBRON and Margaret HARBIN on November 21, 1812 in Washington Co., KY. John is shown as being age 60 born in MD in the 1850 KY census. I believe he was born in Prince George County because a B. HINTON shows on the 1800 census, which I have seen referenced as his father without documentation, and because most of the HINTONS in PGC appear in the 1810 census but not 1820 which implies they moved. John appears in KY in 1812 missing August muster in the militia and then getting married. Any advice on sorting out the HINTONs in MD would be greatly appreciated. Mike Esterle mesterle@iquest.net
