Descendants of Francis MEAD

This page was generated, in part, from information provided by Isabelle Board Obert who has prepared a book on the Board, Long, Mead, and Peake families "The Board Family Chronicle: from Maryland to Bedford County, Virginia." Copies of this book were submitted to the Maryland State Archives and the Maryland Historical Society, and should be available at these repositories or contact the author above via her E-mail address. Some information on the family was also abstracted from several early Anne Arundel Co. records.

FIRST GENERATION

1. Francis MEAD(1) was born about 1650. He signed a will on 4 Jan 1716/17 in Anne Arundel Co, MD.. Will names sons William, John ,and Benjamin, daughter Susannah Long, son-in-law Thomas Dawson, granddaughter Hannah Crans, dau-in-law Mary Wright and wife Ann. He also left personal property to John and James Beard at Age 18. He died before 6 Aug 1717 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. He had an estate probated on 6 Aug 1717 in Anne Arundel Co, MD..(2) Francis Mead appears on list of debts due estate of James Cox, filed 31 Aug 1678.
Francis Mead's land is mentioned as adjacent to that of Richard Beard of AA Co. in a 1694 deed.On 29 Oct 1702 Richard Beard AA Co boatright conveyed to Francis Mead AA Co., planter 130 acres of the tract called "Huckleberry Forest". Wm Mead was a witness to this indenture,
on 29 Oct 1702 Francis Mead AA Co platner and wife Ann conveyed to Thomas Robinson part of the parcel called Bare Neck, south sidde of Magaty RIver granted 24 Sept 1680 to Francis MEad for 225 acres lying on north side of Beards Creek laid out for 64 acres. Also witnessed by Wm Mead.
Francis Mead as severalentries in 1707 rent rolls, he had 100 acres of the tract "Pen Lloyde also Swan Neck in Middle Neck Hundred, In Broad & Town Neck Hundreds Bear Neck Hundred was surveyed for Francis Mead 19 June 1680 off which Francis had 161 acres in 1707 and 64 acres in possession of Thos. It seems that his wife Ann, may have been the widow of Abraham DAWSON who died in 1675. The will of Francis Mead refers to son-in-law Thomas Dawson and daughter-in-law Mary Wright, His wife's, Ann, will of 1725 refers to daughter Mary Wright. Mary seems to be the wife of Henry Wright who had children born between 1686 and 1714 in St Margarets Westminster Parish, with one of the sons being named "Dawson". Abraham DAWSON had a son Thomas, and three daughters were named: Elizabeth, Hannah, and Sarah, but no Mary. unless Mary changed her name its is unclear where she fits. (of course it is also possible Ann had another husband and Mary is by him.) Mary was propably the eldest since she married by 1685 or so, born before ca. 1670.
