Sudduth Family

George, Henry and Thornton Sudduth first appear on Kentucky census in Woodford County 1820.  It is very likely these three men
were connected, possibly brothers. By 1830 the families of George, Thornton and a William Sudduth appear in Franklin County and remain
there until their deaths.  All three men being born in the late 1780's and 1790's.  The following lineage is that of George.

 

George Sudduth, was born in Virginia on March 23, 1787.  His wife Sarah Pierce on October 28, 1793, also in Virginia.  George and Sarah first appeared on
census records in Woodford County, Kentucky 1820.  By 1830 the family had moved to Franklin County and remained on census until their deaths.  Children
were:  George "Wash" Washington, b. 1814/15; Attaway, b. August 1, 1816; Henry, b. November 24, 1818; Sarah A., b. October 10, 1820; Wm. Harrison,
b. October 28, 1822; Lafayette, b. 1825; Duane F., b. November 5, 1827; Lucretia N., b. June 17, 1830; O'Banion, b. August 12, 1832 and Cordelia, b. 1836.
George died on June 9, 1860 and Sarah on March 13, 1865.  Both, along with many of their children are buried in the Sudduth Graveyard, St. John Road,
Franklin County.
George Washington "Wash" Sudduth, son of George and Sarah Sudduth of Virginia, was born about 1814/15 in Woodford County, Kentucky.  He married
Elizabeth Pace in Franklin County, Kentucky on November 14, 1835.  The family appeared on the 1840, 1850, 1860 and 1870 census for Franklin
County, Kentucky.  Children born to this union were:  Sylvester, b. 1836; Louisa Ann, b. 1838; William H., b. July 16, 1840; Thornton, Jr., b. June 5, 1844:
Elizabeth, b. June 5, 1844 (twin); Attaway, b. 1846; Washington, b. August 29, 1848; Sarah J., b. July 1850; Male twins, b. August 15, 1853 (dead);
Frances "Fanny", b. May 4, 1856.  Several of these children are buried in the Sudduth Graveyard, St. John Road, Franklin County.  The death of George and
Sarah has not been verified.
Thornton Sudduth, son of George Washington Sudduth and Elizabeth Pace Sudduth, was born June 5, 1844 and died April 21, 1921 in Franklin
County according to his tombstone. Thornton married Matilda Catherine Pulliam on March 3, 1867 in Franklin County, Kentucky.  She was born on
October 23, 1842 and died on November 9, 1918.  Thornton and Matilda first appeared on the 1870 census for Franklin County with one daughter, Elizabeth.
A son Jeptha Sudduth was born in Franklin County on September 3, 1874. On the 1900 census Matilda states she is the mother of 6 children, 5 living.  
Desmonia, born 1881 is still living at home. Both Thornton and Matilda are buried at the Sudduth Graveyard, on St. John Road, in Franklin County, Kentucky.
Desmona Sudduth, daughter of Thornton Sudduth and Matilda Catherine Pulliam Sudduth, was born December 5, 1881 in Franklin County, Kentucky.
She married Lewis Crittenden Childs on March 4, 1903.  Desmona died on September 14, 1937 in Franklin County and Lewis died on December 24, 1951
in Franklin County.  Both are buried in section U of Frankfort Cemetery.
Cecil Sudduth Childs, son of Lewis and Desmona Sudduth Childs, was born on January 19, 1908 in Franklin County.  He married Veatrice
Shouley, daughter of Joseph E. Shouley and Maude Whitledge. Cecil Childs died on February 16, 1970 in Franklin County.  Veatrice was born in
Henderson, Kentucky on March 1, 1909 and died in Franklin County on October 22, 1981.  Both are buried in section A of Frankfort Cemetery.
Betty Carolyn Childs, daughter of Cecil S. and Veatrice Shouley Childs, married George W. Gayhart.
George Wm. Childs, son of John William and Angeline Hord Childs, born in Shelby County on September 7, 1847.  He married Jane Wright, daughter
of Crittenden and Elizabeth Hord Wright, born March 23, 1847. Jane died on December 26, 1922 and George on July 7, 1927.
Lewis Crittenden Childs, son of George W. and Jane Childs, was born on January 12, 1880 in Shelby County, Kentucky.  He married Desmona
Sudduth on March 4, 1903.
