NEWPORT
DROWNED-A young man named Woolwebber, belonging to the unassigned
recruits at Newport Barracks, was drowned in the Ohio River, a short distance
above the mouth of the Licking on Thursday. He had gone into the water for the
purpose of bathing, but was unable to swim.
Deceased formerly resided a few miles back of Cincinnati. He was buried with military honors on Friday. About a week ago, a soldier at the Barracks named Birch, was drowned under similar circumstances.
