Many of the women doctors of Campbell County were graduates of various medical school in Cincinnati; Laura Memorial Woman's Medical College, 618 West Sixth Street; Women's Medical College, 164 George Street; Pulte Medical School, 7th and John Streets; Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery, 409 East Fifth Street; Ohio Medical College; Miami Medical College; Eclectic Medical College, 1009 Plum Street.
Laura Memorial Women's Medical College merged with Miami and then Miami with Ohio Medical College in 1908 to become the University of Cincinnati Medical College.
Margaretha Amrenn was a midwife in Campbell County as early as January 1, 1853.
Mary J Baker was a nurse in Dayton in 1890.
Bettie Campbell was a nurse in Dayton in 1890.
Dr. Ida May Caldwell was born 30 Oct 1883 in Danville Ohio, the daughter of John Westlake and Mary Patrick. She attended Oberlin College 1901-1905. By 1908 she was the Physical Director at the YMCA in Cincinnati. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati Medical Department in 1912 and practiced in Newport. She died 1 Nov 1957 in Covington at the age of 74, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. She was married to John Hadley Caldwell in 1919, who also became a doctor.
Mrs. William Coomes was the first midwife to practice in the state of Kentucky in 1775.
Dr. Mary A Conner was born Apr 1850 in Ireland was a physician at 929 York in Newport in the 1900s.
Mary M Echtermann was born Mar 1847 in Ohio, a practicing midwife in Bellevue by 1882 on the north side of Center between Taylor and Washington Avenues and in 1897 at 123 Foote Av. She died 14 May 1936 and was buried in St Mary Cemetery in St Bernard O.
Mrs. C C L Graninger practiced at 62 Front Street in Newport in 1869.
Dr. Emma Gunkel was born 8 Feb 1864 in Newport, the daughter of Dr. Heinrich Carl Gunkel and Katherine Weber. She practiced in Newport. She died 24 May 1899 at 3 Sixth St in Newport and was buried 27 May in Evergreen Cemetery.
Dr. Anna Wilhelmina Hagemann was born in 1868 in Waverly Ohio, the daughter of Anton Wilhelm and Sophia Hagemann. She graduated from Eclectic Medical School in 1914; practiced in Ft. Thomas. She died in Summit New Jersey October 1951 at the age of 82.
Dr. Katherine D Hanks was born in 1852 in Massachusetts, daughter of Michael Fitzpatrick and Margaret Haney, graduated from Laura Memorial Medical School in Cincinnati in 1894. She died 7 July 1918 in Covington and was buried in St Mary Cemetery, Ft Mitchell.
Dr. Emily Rogers Hess was born 14 July 1908 in Ft Thomas, daughter of Howard Wentworth Hess and Eva Mae Rogers. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati School in 1938 and practiced in Ft. Thomas for a number of years. She then took post graduate training and practiced physical therapy in Cincinnati. Dr. Hess was listed in the 1974-75 Who's Who of American Women. She died 20 August 1991 in Cincinnati.
Dr. Amalia Armayor Hickman was born 6 Dec 1918 in Havana Cuba, a graduate of Havana University Medical School in 1951. She interned in Cincinnati and was the first woman to practice in Alexandria beginning in 1965. She died 3 Jan 1972 in Ft Thomas and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. She was married to Luther Monroe Hickman.
Julia Hofmeier was a midwife in Newport in 1878 at 248 Monmouth and in 1880 at 14 Dayton av. She was born 14 Sep 1832 in Kassel, Hessen Germany and died 22 Aug 1896 in Newport. She was the wife of William and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Sarah Whiting Hughes was born 3 Jan 1890 in Dayton Ky. the daughter of Richard L Whiting & Emma Waterhouse. She became an assistant coroner to her husband Dr. Walter Brooks Hughes for 12 years before he died in 1931. She was then appointed assistant coroner to Dr. August Helmbold. Sara died 2 Jan 1944 at St Elizabeth Hospital and was buried in Spring Grove.
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jaeckel was a midwife in Newport in 1878 at 109 Mayo and in 1880 at the northwest corner of Mayo and Saratoga. She was born in 1823 in Prussia and died before 1900 in Newport.
Dr. Cora Elizabeth Kehm was born 3 July 1865 in Crawford, Ohio, to Jacob A Wentz & Elizabeth Knable. She registered as a physician in Campbell County in July 1897 and graduated from the Eclectic Medical School in 1898 and maintained a practice with her husband, Dr. Charles J Kehm, in Newport at 942 Columbia Street. She died 8 May 1918 in Newport and was buried in Evergreen.
Elizabeth Kurtz was a midwife in Newport in 1880 at 163 Central Av. She was born 1830 in Switzerland and was the wife of Jacob.

Rachel Tarvin Painter was a midwife in the Carthage area. She was born 5 Aug 1800 in Mason Co Ky. to Joseph C and Martha (Cowgill) Tarvin, and married to George Painter 31 Mar 1820. She probably trained to be a midwife from another woman in the Carthage area. She died 16 Oct 1883 and was buried in the Tarvin and Moore Cemetery in Carthage.
Katherine A Platts was born 14 Feb 1863 in Ohio, the daughter of Shipley Davis and Harriet Collum, graduated from the Cincinnati College of Pharmacy and practiced with her husband Dr. George Enison Platts at their pharmacy in Bellevue. She died 31 Jan 1941 in Los Angeles Calf.
Dr. Janet Dorothy Quinn was born Jan 1858 in Canella Indiana, to Alexandria Douglas and Agnes Miller. As early as 1889 had a practice at Tenth and Isabella in Newport. She graduated from the Eclectic Medical College in 1894 and was still listed in Newport in 1910. She was married to Robert H Quinn, but was a widow by 1900. She also practiced in Pasadena Cal. and died 23 Jan 1945 in Springfield Oh. She was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Dr. Louise Gunkel Rainey was born 13 Oct 1867 in Newport and graduated from Laura Memorial Women's Medical College in Cincinnati in 1902 and practiced at 11 East Sixth Street in Newport. She was the daughter of Dr. Henry Christian and Catherine Gunkel. She was married to James Monroe Rainey and died 9 May 1957 in New York City, was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Dr. Katherine Schriver Roebuck was born 28 July 1861 in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of John Simpson Roebuck & Emily Bowes Jessup. She graduated the Laura Memorial College in Cincinnati and was practicing in Newport by 1896. She interned at the Presbyterian Hospital. As early as 1889 she practiced at 707 York in Newport. She was a member of the American Medical Association and the Campbell-Kenton County Medical Society. She was involved in the Equal Rights Association in Kentucky and served on many committees. She died 30 January 1930 in Newport and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery section 17 lot 99 S1/2. Dr. Roebuck's Obituary.
Rosanna Scholl was a midwife in 1867 in Newport at Columbia and Jefferson and into the 1880's at 53 1/2 Dayton Av. She was born in 1825 in Prussia and was married to Joseph Scholl.
Catherine Schwenn was a midwife at 94 Third Street in Dayton by 1890.
Dr. Anna G Sedam was born in 1864, the daughter of Mary Hopkins. She had a practice at 116 W. Third Street in Newport as early as 1889. She graduated from the Women's Medical College of Cincinnati in 1895 and registered as a physician in Campbell County in May 1895.
Sarah M Siewers was born March 1, 1855 grew up in Newport and graduated from Cincinnati's Eclectic Medical College in 1891 and operated a practice at 209 East 6th Street in Newport. She died April 22, 1926.
Dr. Jessie Southgate was born 12 June 1875 in Ft. Thomas, the daughter of James Moss and Emma (Hills) Southgate. She attended the Laura Memorial College. During WWI she served in the United States Army Medical Corp in France. She practiced in Cincinnati in 1920, but moved her practiced to San Antonio Texas where she died May 4, 1931. She was buried in Mission Burial Park in San Antonio.
Dr. Louise Southgate graduated from Laura Memorial Medical School in 1894 and practiced until 1930.
Dr. Anna S Taliaferro registered as a physician in Campbell County in July 1898.
Dr. Mary Gillmore Taylor had a practice in Dayton at 76 Main by 1890. She was born Dec 1850 in Cincinnati, the daughter of Melvina Gillmore. She was the wife of Charles W Taylor.
Louisa Wade was a midwife in Dayton at 38 Front by 1890. She was born Oct 1837 in Germany and died 21 June 1902 in Dayton. She was buried in St Francis Cemetery and was the wife of Mathew Wade.
Elisabetha Weber was a midwife as early as January 18, 1854 in Campbell County.
Dr. Anna Emma Wolfram was born January 3, 1857 in Canada, the daughter of Frederick and Mary Jane (Taylor) Wolfram and as early as 1880 was a nurse at 147 Center Street in Bellevue. She graduated from Women's Medical College in 1895 and was the first and only woman doctor in the Bellevue-Dayton area. She practiced from 1892 to 1926. She is credited with bringing hundreds of Bellevue children into the world. She died December 2, 1930.

Dr. Mary Lorraine Yeager was born 16 Nov 1906, in Klotte North Dakota, to Spencer Dameron and Mary Pagan. She practiced in Alexandria and died 22 Feb 1962 in Pasadena Cal. She married Guy Courtney Yeager and was buried in the Alexandria Cemetery.
Dr. Carolyn (Carrie) E Zimmerman was born 5 Jan 1859 in Newport Ky. to Frederick Boehme and Mary Uhl. She graduated Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery in 1896 and practiced at 821 Washington Avenue in Newport. She was awarded a Fellowship in the American Medical Association. She died April 16, 1923, in Southgate Ky. and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
