Wm Kraus, the Finchtown butcher, received the sad news yesterday
of the death of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Bartlett, which occurred at the
Anchorage Insane Asylum. She was adjudged insane and sent to the asylum eight
years ago. Three of her children have been under the care of the Cold Spring
Orphan Asylum since her derangement.
Deputy Sheriff Betz will leave this morning with George Bachmey for the same asylum and will return having in charge the remains of Mrs. Bartlett.

A sneak thief was discovered in the residence of William Kraus at
Finchtown yesterday, by Miss Kraus. He was in the kitchen and when discovered
ran into a bed chamber, locking the door.
While the neighbors were engaged in breaking open the door, he jumped from the window and made his escape.

The efficiency of the Fire Department yesterday afternoon prevented a disastrous conflagration at Finchtown. The large slaughter and pork packing house of William Kraus & Co caught fire on the roof from sparks emitted by the smoke stack.
The oil soaked building was burning briskly when the Twos and Threes arrived, and by stretching 100 feet of hose had a stream of water on the building and soon checked the progress of the flames. The fire was extinguished with a loss of less than $200, fully covered by insurance.
