Death of a Soldier
At Newport Kentucky on the 24th ult, Capt. Welsh, of Col. Boyd's
Regiment of the U. S. Army. This young gentleman had a public education, he was
on this station for some time and much beloved for his urbanity and talents.

The Columbian, New York 16 September 1811
Published a letter from Newport dated 24 August 1811 which included the following:
"Since I have been writing, Captain Welsh of our regiment, has expired. He has been ill of a fever for about 10 days, but received every care and attention. He will be buried this afternoon, with military honors. Our garrison maybe considered healthy for the season."

Died in Newport (Ken) on the 24th ult. Captain William Welsh, of the United States army, son of John Welsh, Esq. of Litchfield in this state; a young gentleman of education and merit.
