NEWPORT
The announcement of the death of William Weise in yesterday's
ENQUIRER, caused profound sorrow in this city. The circumstances
surrounding his death made it more lamentable. Slain accidentally and
unbeknowingly by his best friend, Mr. Hook, who was at his bedside every day and
night from the time he fired the shot that cut down an honored and esteemed
friend and associate.
The deceased leaves a widow and two children to mourn his loss. He was a man who was steady in his habits and had no comprehension of an enemy. His funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from St John's German Protestant Church. The Turner Society of which the deceased was a devoted member, will attend in a body.
