NEWPORT NEWS
DROWNED-On Monday afternoon a son of Mr. John J Stroop of Jamestown, Ky.
was drowned in the Ohio River, near that place. The little fellow*, who
was ten years of age, was not missed from home until about three o'clock in the
afternoon of Monday, when search was made for him but without success.
Yesterday morning about eight o'clock his dead body was found in the river, near a spot where he was seen playing with a spade the day previous. The afflicted family have our sympathies in their sad bereavement. The father of the deceased is a compositor in the Daily Gazette office.
*William's name comes from the 1860 census.
