Kentucky Post, Thursday, 14 September 1933, page 1

William H Newell, 59, prominent Newport attorney, Hyde Park, was found dead in bed shortly before noon Thursday in his room at the Newport Hotel, 17 W Sixth st. Newport. Mr. Newell had been staying at the hotel the past few days while doing work in Newport. The body was found by William Stevens, 23 Court pl. and Paul Sanders, 222 Central av. both of Newport.

Mr. Stevens and Mr. Sanders said they had been with Mr. Newell Wednesday night and he had complained of pains in his chest. When he failed to answer the door Thursday they entered the room and found him dead. Thomas Hanly, acting Campbell co. coroner, said death apparently was due to a heart attack.

Mr. Newell was widely known in Campbell co. He was formerly a reporter with the Kentucky Post and the old Commercial Tribune. Later he served as chief clerk of the Newport Water Works and then for 16 years as Campbell Circuit Court clerk. He was defeated six years ago and since that time had been a practicing attorney. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mamie Newell and two daughters.
