The death of Dr. W L Young, 61, which occurred yesterday at the home of his son, Dr. W B Young, 505 East Third st. Cincinnati, marks the passing away of one of the best known residents of Campbell County. the deceased has resided at California, Campbell County, nearly all his life, where he had been active in affairs of that locality.

He served through the Civil War, being a member of the Twenty-third Kentucky Volunteers and was with Gen. Sherman all through his remarkable march to the sea. Dr. Young was at the head of one of the advance parties sent out to notify the residents in the sections of the country over which Sherman's army marched to pack up and leave before the devastating army appeared on the scene. At one point where Dr. Young called to notify the proprietor of a large flour mill to leave the vicinity, he was surprised to meet his uncle. A strong interview followed, but Young carried out his instructions. Later the property was destroyed by the army which followed.

The funeral will take place Wednesday, with interment at Flag Spring Cemetery, Campbell County.
