William W Linville
 

William W Linville was born 6 Nov 1835 in Cincinnati, the son of Jacob and Mary Linville. He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War on 15 Oct 1861 as a Private in Co B 4th Ohio Cavalry.

The 4th Ohio Cavalry Regiment was organized at Cincinnati, Lima and Camp Dennison near Cincinnati from August to November 1861, and mustered in for a three years under the command of Colonel John Kennett.

The regiment was attached to 3rd Division, Army of the Ohio, to October 1862. 2nd Brigade, Cavalry Division, Army of the Ohio, to November 1862. 2nd Brigade, Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland to January 1863. 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland, to March 1863. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Army of the Cumberland, to October 1864. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Cavalry Corps, Military Division Mississippi, to August 1865. The 4th Ohio Cavalry mustered out of service on July 15, 1865.

William saw action throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and the Chickamauga Campaign and was discharged 12 Aug 1865.

Returning to Cincinnati he met and married Anna Rebecca Page, daughter of Joseph Page and Mary Ledomine. By 1866 he and his family moved to Dayton Ky. where he spent the rest of his life. William died 14 Nov 1903 in Dayton Ky and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery
