William Leonard Kouns

After 30 years service, Master Sergt. William L Kouns, service company, 10th Infantry, will retire today, Col. Dana T Merrill, commanding officer of Ft Thomas announced. Sergt. Kouns is at Ft Knox on temporary duty as regimental supply office sergeant. He will be retired at that post and will return to make his home on Sheridan avenue, Ft Thomas.

Sergt Kouns is a veteran of the World War. He also served on the Mexican border, Philippine Islands and in Panama. He received a silver start citation for gallantry and bravery in action and was recommended for decoration by his batallion commander, Col Theodore Roosevelt Jr. during the world war after being wounded at Cantigny.

Sergt. Kouns is married and has two children. He enlisted in the army Oct 10, 1905 at Huntington, West Virginia.
