William (Billie) Knapp, 26, of 703 Linden avenue, Newport, widely known baseball player, died of a brain hemorrhage, Dr. Leo C Sauter, Campbell county coroner, said Wednesday as he returned a verdict of accidental death.
Dr. Sauter said the young athlete, a veteran of World War II, had suffered a blow on the head by a piece of plywood at the Weingartner Lumber Co. Newport, where he was employed as yard superintendent. Mr. Knapp collapsed at work Monday and died several hours later at Speers Hospital without regaining consciousness.
Rev Harold Barkhau, pastor of St John Evangelical Congregational Church, Newport, will conduct services at 2 pm Friday at the A C Dobbling & Son funeral home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
