William Karmon of Poplar st. Bellevue, soldier, died in France Oct 13 of influenza, according to word received by his parents Saturday. Of the 60 young men who have left St Anthony’s parish, Bellevue, to join the colors, he is the first to die in the service.
Rev Kehoe, who had been his pastor for 16 years and who knew him as a school boy when told of his death, paid tribute to the dead soldier by saying: “While as pastor I deeply regret his death, still I rejoice to think he has the honor by his gentle, beautiful life and death to be St Anthony’s first gold star.”
