M. Sgt. William J Walsh, who makes his home with his brother, John Walsh, 530 E Second Street, Newport, is in Italy with the Air Corps. M. Sgt. Walsh, who has been overseas since last January, wrote he and several others from his squadron, after waiting 2 1/2 hours, had the privilege of seeing Pope Pius XII and kissing his ring.

Entering the service in March, 1942, M. Sgt. Walsh received his basic training in Texas and was then transferred to California. Prior to entering the service, he was employed at the Fischer Screw Co. Cincinnati. A member of the Northern Kentucky Umpire Association, he was well known in amateur baseball circles.
