William J Baker, 229 Ridgeway avenue, Southgate, prominent northern Kentucky manufacturer, died Thursday at Deaconness Hospital, Cincinnati. He was 88. Mr. Baker was founder of the Baker Metal Screen Co, Newport. He organized the firm in Cincinnati before the turn of the century and moved it to Newport in 1906.

A lifelong resident of Campbell county, Mr. Baker was widely known in Rotary circles. He was a charter member and past president of the Newport Rotary Club and a member since 1912 of the Cincinnati Rotary Club. He attended many national Rotary functions and conventions and traveled to Vienna and other European cities for international meetings. Mr. Baker was president of the Daylight Building & Loan Association, Newport, and director of the Northern Kentucky Division of the Cincinnati Auto Club.

He was a member of the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce and the Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, Clearwater, Fla. where he had a winter home. He leaves a cousin, Mrs. Lily Schrickel, Southgate. Services will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Erschell funeral home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
