PFC William C Hug, 22, son of Mrs. Ava Hamburger, of 308 Powell street, Newport, previously listed as missing in action in France since Sept 22, was reported by the War Department as a prisoner of the Germans, it was learned here. In the Army for four years, PFC Hug was wounded in action before listed as missing. Serving with the infantry, he was sent overseas 39 months ago.

He is a veteran of Iceland, England, Scotland, Ireland and France. A brother Cpl. Carl Hug, 23, is now serving with the armed forces in France.

PFC. William C Hug, 23, son of Mrs. Ava Hamburger, of 506 Powell street, Newport, was liberated when Stalag 7-A Moosburg, Germany, was captured by Allied troops, the Red Cross has informed his mother. The soldier was made prisoner Sept 22, 1944.

Together with his brother, Cpl. Carl M Hug, the young infantry man enlisted September 1940. They were assigned to overseas duty in Iceland August 1941 and then to Ireland and England. Both brothers participated in the invasion of Normandy and each one was wounded in action. Carl was still in action with his outfit at the cessation of the European war. He has been recommended for the Bronze Star Medal.

The brothers are nephews of Sgt. Kenneth Collins of the Newport Police Department.
