NEWPORT
William Brown, 20, residing at 533 Fourth street, Newport Ky.
committed suicide yesterday morning at his home by drinking prussic acid. His
tragic act was a great surprise to his many friends in Newport, where he was
well and favorable known. Brown was employed on the clerical force at the office
of the Proctor & Gamble Company and worry over the fact that he had lost his
position is supposed to have been the cause of his rash act.
Brown had previously worked at Bartholomew's Drug Store at Fourth and York streets, Newport. He had the run of the store and it is thought that he secured the bottle of prussic acid there, in an original package, while Bartholomew's back was turned. Some time ago he secured a portion of it for the purpose of killing a dog. He had been reading a book treating of poisons for several days.
