William Blackwell, a Newport youth, 17, was today found guilty of obtaining goods on false pretenses and his punishment fixed at one year in the penitentiary. Blackwell was arrested last July by the Newport police on information filed by Marian Ludenski, a harness dealer of Monmouth st. He alleged Blackwell, by representing himself to be foreman for the Frigid Ice Co. obtained a quantity of harness.
The last grand jury returned two indictments against him, witnesses having testified he obtained harness on two different occasions. Blackwell's defense was that an employee of the ice company gave him the orders to get the harness. The jury was out only a few minutes when a verdict was reached. Blackwell has been in similar trouble before, but on account of his youth he was never prosecuted.
