W W Agnes, 65, formerly of Newport, was found dead in his room at 141 Broadway, Cincinnati, late Sunday. Coroner Fred C Swing, Hamilton co. said death was due to asphyxiation from the fumes of a small gas stove in the room.

Agnew was one of the old school of river pilots and had served on various boats on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers for many years. He was licensed as a master for steamboats. He is survived by a brother, Robert Agnew, California.

Funeral services will be held in Vanceburg, KY. where the body will be shipped Monday at 2:30 pm. Charles A Smith Bros. Newport, undertakers are in charge of the arrangements.
