Wilbur Lichwadt, 43, World War veteran, 814 E Sixth st. Newport, ended his life yesterday at his home by attaching one end of a garden hose to the exhaust pipe of his sedan auto and placing the other end inside the auto while the motor ran. His act was discovered by his widow and stepson, Albert. Albert returned home and heard the motor running in the garage.
He notified his mother. She brought the car home at 10 pm and turned the motor off. The Newport Life Saving Squad was called but was unable to revive him. Dr. August Helmbold who returned a verdict of suicide, said the victim was shell shocked and had been nervous. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm at the Tharp & Stith funeral home, Dayton. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
